United loses lawsuit in Argentina over an error fare

Tue Dec 03, 2019 2:56 am

Last year in March, United loaded by error a r/t fare from SCL to SYD via the US for US$200 with taxes. Many folks from Argentina bought tickets at this fare. Upon realizing the mistake, United cancelled all issued tickets and refunded the money to the buyers.

Well, someone in Argentina sued United and on last Thursday a court in Buenos Aires agreed with the traveler and has ordered United to pay this person a r/t to Australia and a compensation of AR$10,000.

I would think Chileans would need to start legal proceedings where their transaction with United took place which I think would have to be Chile. In Argentina most tickets were sold through United's local website, and priced in Argentinian currency,.

It's always best to let it go as a loss and honor mistake prices.

United's PR team always seems to be the slowest to the game.

Yep. Airlines are tripping over a dollar to pick up a penny when they do this.
