What is Your Least Favorite A Net Story.

Sat Dec 28, 2019 4:33 pm

****Note to Mods this is meant to be humorous. ******

Perhaps you are like me and certain A.net stories have grown a bit tiresome. Please pick your least favorite. Enjoy. :D

1. Boeing in Meltdown.....Can Company Survive?

2. So the A380Neo.....When will it Happen.

3. DTW Gets Screwed by DL Again.

4.The 737Max. Is it a flying Deathtrap?

5. Will Boeing Open up the 757 Line Again?

6. The NMA.....It's Really Gonna Happen...Right?

Please pick anyone of these or perhaps your own A.net most tiresome story. :)

#3 and #5 are the winners in terms of threads. In terms of individual posts, the winner is the inevitable one (by the same poster, every time) in any thread about an area with multiple airports proposing that all the airports be consolidated into one.

My biggest gripe is the A380 threads. I've seriously had enough of them.

The AA @ JFK threads long ago jumped the shark for me. They quickly went from a legitimate financial and strategic question to fanboys proposing all sorts of ridiculous mergers, slot swaps, and hub realignments that will never, ever happen.

Haven't seen a "why are AF's planes so dirty" thread in a while. Maybe that subject has finally died.

For me, it's the endless A380-related threads. Either re-hashing its imminent demise or suggestions of how airlines can pick up a cheap fleet of used ones and take over the world.

Before I understood how wings and lift worked, I wondered why planes didn’t take off down wind. They’d gain speed so much faster that way.

The fact this statement is necessary is funnier than anything else.

I would add:

Be careful of Air France, the airline, airport, and entire country is on strike.

Why don't British Airways, Iberia, Air France, KLM, SAS, Swiss, LOT, and Lufthansa fly nonstops to Hawaii?

When is Southwest going to change their boarding process so people will fly them?

The. Worst. Thing. On. These. Forums. -- Example:

THREAD TITLE: "List of [Insert Aircraft Model Here] 'Production/Delivery/Repaint/Rollout' thread"

.... and somehow.... SOMEHOW: Several hundred responses to the aforementioned subjects follow?!

It's like watching (reading) paint dry. I'll take the tired retreads of 757, DC-9, B6 merger threads, over the page-long responses to "List of airplanes being repainted!" threads any day...

Just realized: Some of those threads actually ARE discussions about paint drying! lol

Does anybody else find the people whining about the 757, a380, DL @ DTW, etc etc threads just as obnoxious if not more so than the people who make them? You're part of the problem, in any of those threads 90% of the people are there to ridicule the OP. If you just said oh that doesn't interest me I'm tired of that topic and ignored it it would vanish off the first page quickly. These topics are kept alive by people complaining about the trivial issue of the topics frequency more so than anything.

On another note the same holds true with people who complain that we are too PC these days and use words like snowflake. If you're reacting to someones overly sensitive position by being overly sensitive to it, in my eyes you're just as much a snowflake yourself. Overbearing PC policing is obnoxious, and so are privileged folks whining about the good old days, before they had to consider how people felt about what they did and said.

I'm tired of how we make a significant number of non-political threads in the non-aviation forum political and how partisan things always get. I'd love to hear more from those of us who think for ourselves instead of the self serving bickering of far right and far left that plagues the non-aviation forum. There are users there who take over threads and sound like robots from their favorite news outlets more so than actual humans.

Let's also cut out the whole "this place was better when you had to pay" nonsense. A part of me actually agrees, but does it need to be pointlessly stated in every thread? There has always been a decent amount of bad posting here, to an extent the past has been romanticized by some users.

Non av is a dump that either needs to be shut down or heavily reconfigured. You could post a thread that your favorite local restaurant is closing, and somehow the same few members will end up arguing about politics.

That said, one of the things I do enjoy seeing in non-av are the very threads that used to annoy me. Ships, ferris wheels, water parks, and observation decks. Realized what a minor thing to be annoyed at it is, and came to enjoy reading about various openings. That said, I'm still not totally sold on retread tires...

I completely agree with your point and 95% on KNO's as well. Suggestion on the nov-av forum. Create a separate "political discussions" forum and anything in non-av that turns political gets moved there or locked.

All that being said - another "least favorite" that is a recurring theme - "Rumor - AS to merge with airline XX (fill in the blank)"

I tend to ignore threads involving 757, 767-400ER, [email protected], A320 Y seats are so much wider than 737 Y seats, UA bashing. As well as posts where the posters think their opinion or preference is the only way to go.

Not if those cheap used airplanes are Boeings :duck: :duck: :duck:

Back on topic - nobody mention "Will UA EVER come back to JFK" (Yes, I emphasized the EVER part on purpose) threads yet?

My main peeve is the necroing of some months old thread, though, with responses that are totally pointless...just to have a few more pointless responses to that.

One of my pet peeves that hasn't been mentioned yet: Every time the subject of IFE comes up, almost immediately someone will jump into the thread to tell us about how they don't use IFE, as if that makes them superior to those of us that do. Whenever someone does that it always makes me think of old Onion article (it's actually about 20 years old now, come to think of it) called "Area Man Constantly Mentioning That He Doesn't Own a TV."

Ironically, my least favorite might be threads and posts that insult other threads and posts. And yes I'm being hypocritical by replying to to this !

Not everyone has a Master's Degree in Advanced Airline Studies. People have various interests and varying levels of experience and understanding. And some people only come on the site occasionally so maybe weren't part of the last discussion. Some of the older longtime users need to be more chill.

Some people complain about the "Why doesn't ____ fly to ____" or "Why doesn't ____ fly the ____" posts. Although some can be repetitive or silly, others can lead to a discussion about the logistical, historical or market background. People are not suggesting that the airline didn't already do their own research about it.

But if I HAD to pick......I would probably say my least favorite are the threads that asked personal stats of where you've flown to or what airports you've used. It's not a topic you can contribute to because it's so personal. So it's just a thread of personal lists without discussion.
