SuperShuttle Goes Out of Business

Mon Jan 06, 2020 1:29 am

I am sad to report that they have gone out of business. Here's an article.

This was my transportation to/from LAX, OAK to downtown SF, etc. I am saddened by this.

Probably due to the popularity of Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare companies. The only time I used it was in Cancun.

In LA, their Execucar was cheaper than the top end Uber. So I will miss that. And at LAX, they could pickup at the outside curb. That was more convenient than Uber or Lyft. Sad for me.

Yes, it seems like there would still be a market for a shared-ride product, particularly among leisure travelers. In metropolitan cities where the airport is far away from certain suburbs, or even the city itself, a roundtrip Uber that isn't being expensed to a company can be quite pricey and a week's worth of parking at most major airports ain't cheap either. It's just one less option for folks in general to be able to take, though I suppose I am part of the problem as I have not taken them in years.

That's sad. They stopped serving SMF (my home airport) last month. I guess in retrospect I should have seen that as a sign that they were in trouble, but I'm still shocked that they went under.

Super Shuttle was my go to transportation to the airport for longer trips. I did the math and for me for trips of a week or less it was cheaper to drive and park in the cheapest lot at the airport. For a trip lasting more than a week Super Shuttle was the cheapest option (apart from public transit which is rather sparse and unreliable at SMF). Now I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess Uber Pool is sort of similar in that it's a shared ride service, but as far as I know it doesn't allow you to pre-book your ride, nor does it come with a guarantee that you'll be picked up early enough to make your flight as Super Shuttle did.

Strange their website is still taking reservations.

For solo traveler, Super Shuttle was the cheapest option. For two or more travelers, Uber becomes cheaper.

Gave up on SS after a couple of bad experiences (both going TO rather than from an airport). They delayed my arranged pick up times and the stress of worrying whether I’d make the flight on time wasn’t fun.

Wonder if that was a wider problem.

SuperShuttle may be gone but their competitors still exist. In the LA area, PrimeTime seemed to the the biggest. GO Airport Shuttle is a network of various independent shuttle operators, which is helpful for those looking for a company in another city.

Looks like I will be using PrimeTime next time. Looks like they have private car service.

Had a love/hate relationship with Super Shuttle. Before Lyft/Uber they were good to the airport. Once Lyft/Uber took off the routings at least in SF became longer and Longer to fill the van. That said I made it to the airport every time in plenty of time. Kind of sad to see them go.

I used to ride them before Uber/Lyft but once those came along I never went back.
