Looking to fly on CityJet's RJ85

Wed Jan 08, 2020 9:58 pm

I was looking to fly on the RJ85 before they are gone. I tried to fly on one a few years ago, but the airline changed the plane before my trip was scheduled.

Anyway, what I am looking at is the CityJet (Aer Lingus) service from DUB to LCY. I am looking to book a flight anywhere from late May, to late July. It looks like they will be operating the type through the summer, so catching one should not be a problem from DUB.

It looks as if this is the only route out of DUB. Are there any other routes City Jet flies with the RJ85?

I’m on the same mission and am doing LCY-DUB at the end of June. In my research, this is the only route they’re used on until they find another LCY compatible plane or drop the LCY service all together.

While I’ve not heard anything concrete, based on the fact they went through the time and expense of painting them in the new Aer Lingus livery I can assume they’ll be around for a little bit, but with emphasis on little.

I haven't booked the flight yet, but June, and July look to be my best opportunity. I am waiting to see what my wife's work schedule will be for that time frame. So I probably will not be able to book the flight until early February at the earliest. Last year, a friend of mine flew from CDG to BLQ on a CityJet (Air France) RJ85. But it looks as if that route is all main line Air France now, with a mix of A318, A319, and A320's.

We plan on flying to DUB from the US, visit Ireland for a couple of days, and then on to LCY. We will stay in the city a few days and fly back to the US from LGW, or LHR.

This will be my 3rd attempt to fly on a 146/ARJ. I tried to fly on Air Wisconsin/UA Express back in the day, but they changed the aircraft type before my scheduled flight. The same with Mesaba/NW Airlink, I missed the ARJ by about a month. So we shall see how this goes!

DUB-LCY is the only route that the RJ-85s are scheduled on. The good news is that there is no immediate replacement in prospect and to date no announcement has been made by Aer Lingus or Cityjet in this regard.

If you want to fly a RJ-85 or RJ-100, your best bet is to go to Sweden. Braatens Aviation (TF) still have 12 aircraft in active service. Stockholm City (BMA) is still a AVRO heaven. Not for long though, as aircraft will be replaced by ATR-72 in the fall of 2020
If it weren't for UAW, Detroit would shine!
