Treat these as a mix of either merger/bankruptcy, but not name changes:

North America: Aloha, America West, ATA, Continental, CP Air, Eastern, New York Air, Northwest, Pan Am, Piedmont, Ted, TWA, US Airways, Virgin America
Australia: Ansett, Australian/TAA, Connellan
Asia: China Southwest
Africa: Zambia Airways
Europe: Air Inter, AOM, ATI, BOAC, BEA, British Caledonian, Lauda Air, Malev, Novair, Sabena, SkyEurope, Swissair, UTA

Honourable mention to Martinair- still around, but no longer in passenger form

Eastern (BOS-MCO, L1011, circa 1979; FLL-BOS, B727 circa 1984)

TWA (BOS-LHR, B747, 1985; BOS-LAX, L1011, 1990)

USAir (SFO-RDU-TPA, B737-400, 1994)

America West (SFO-PHX-ORD, A320-B757, 1995)

National N7 (SFO-LAS-DFW, B757, 2000)

Mexicana (SFO-MEX-ZIH, A320, 2000)

ATA (SFO-MDW, B757, 2003)

Northworst (SFO-DTW-PVD, ??? - DC9, 2003)

Midwest Ailrines (SFO-MCI-MKE, MD80, 2004)

Continental (SFO-CLE-BOS, don't recall a/c types, 2007)

ComAir as Delta Connection (CVG-YUL, Canadair RJ, 2002)

Colgain Air as Continental Express (EWR-BOS, deHaviland Q400, 2009)

Atlantic Southeast Airlines as Delta Connection (YYZ-JFK, Canadair RJ, 2001)

Atlantic Coast Airlines as United Express (ORD-BTV, Canadair RJ (right?) 2003)

Opinions are divided as to whether I rode aboard Canadian Airlines on my January 2001 jaunt from SFO to Edmonton. The equipment on the SFO-YVR (737-200) and YVR-YEG (F28) legs wore "Canadian" and "Canadian Regional" titles but the AC merger had just happened and I don't know which certificate(s) were in use still. Opinions are similarly divided as to whether I rode aboard airBC on the YEG-YVR leg. The plane (BAe 146) wore airBC titles but again I'm not sure if airBC had yet been borg'ed into Air Canada :boggled:. The YVR-SFO leg was unambiguously an Air Canada flight. (Wait was it? Was AC flying 737-200's of its own in January of '01? )

Once flew the Continental Micronesia/ Air Mike B727 Combi from Guam to Honolulu and back - the original Island hopper.

Air Vietnam in 1972 - Danang - Saigon and return

US military chartered flights on several airlines including:

Of course being within spitting distance of 70 years old, I've had more opportunities to fly on airlines that have later closed, absorbed or re-branded that many of you.

Wow, very exotic. Was it on one of their B727's?

They also had DC 6's and at least once Caravelle. So do you remember the aircraft type?

Dang man.

Only Mexicana. I never really flew very much until 10 years ago. (Mexicana ride was in 2007).

As an Indian, it goes without saying that 9W is on my list. However I have not flown any other defunct airline, such as Kingfisher, though I flew a soon-to-be-defunct airline last month: MI (on MAA–SIN).

My first-ever flight, at the age of two in 2002, was on Jet Airways. Coincidentially my last flight on them (GAU–CCU, in June 2018) was on a plane built in 2002 (VT-JGA, now VT-SYK with SG).
