Why didn't British Airways order the 757-300?

Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:46 am

I think the 753 is 8 rows longer than the 752 but it still has lots of range.

Most 757 operators did not order the 757-300, and if they did they ordered small numbers. To my knowledge it is an oddball sized aircraft, MUCH longer than 3 rows, and around 500nm less max range. It also much heavier, suggesting that at max passenger capacity, the range is even lower.

The maximum take-off weight for the 757-200 and 757-300 are the same, so you're trading range for payload with the -300.

Incorrect. The 753 has a higher MTOW, MLW, and ZFW.

I should think the difficulties in containerising the hold would have been offputting for BA. The 753 has a long hold to manually haul cargo in and out of during a rotation.

Haha, thread is just full of people churning out randomly incorrect info.

The answer to questions like these is always the same - it didn't suit their needs at the time.

Weren't BA already committed getting rid of their 757-200 fleet by the time the 757-300 became available? Once the A321 became available BA's 757's became uncompetitive on CASM for European routes out of LHR. What would be the point of acquiring 757-300's when they were already negotiating to sell off the 757-200 fleet to DHL for conversion into freighters? They only really made sense for airlines operating both the 757-200 and 757-300.

Does the A321 have better CASM than the 757-300?

Blacksoviet has a hand of asking one-liner questions without having the bother to just google something or contributing further to the topic.

You're right. This is what happens when I try to go off of memory late at night.
