Very powerful Atlantic jetstream forecast this weekend

Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:41 pm

Just seen the weekly weather forecast and we have a 250mph + Jetstream racing across the Atlantic due from this next weekend.
Could this mean sub-5 hour Boston or even New York to London flight times ?
Would aircraft like the 757 or A321NX struggle westbound and need fuel stops ?

Storm creating major TATL jet stream...will records break?

Fri Feb 07, 2020 4:54 am

Very strong jet stream tonight and this weekend, planes are zipping across the Atlantic. Pushing 700 knots, with over 200mph jetstream pushing them along. Possible 5 hours BOS/JFK to London maybe?

Example, DY7148 BOS-LGW currently looking at less than 5.5 hours in the air..

Does anyone know what would need to be for it to be particularly noteworthy or record setting? Not for a stunt test flight or a flight empty of pax, or Concorde, but just a regular passenger flight with full load?

The 707 was a fast jet and one assumes it still holds in service records like that considering 200 mph winds aren’t novel.

How might this impact AA 4411 on Saturday afternoon

(though maybe PHL-HVN is more of a Gulf stream thing than a Jet stream thing :boggled: )
Pancakes are delicious.

It's definitely noticable in the flight paths from Europe to North America today
Everyone is flying significantly more northern than usual

I just ran a Global 7500 plan, Teterboro to Luton at M.88. 5+07 take-off to touchdown at F390, +126 knots average wind factor. From 50W to 30W, the tailwind component is +172 knots (200mph). I had to restrict the flight level as it ran 5+26 at F450/F490 above the wind.
