How do I get a ride on Eva Air’s Badtz Maru A330?

Wed Feb 05, 2020 1:33 am

It’s been a minute since I posted here, but I was wondering how I could catch a flight on the Badtz Maru A330-300. I don’t really fly much anymore, you’ll catch me on Amtrak before catching me on a flight. All I wanna do is take an out and back. Not looking to stay anywhere. I tried going to their website, and I don’t speak (or read) Taiwanese. So can anyone give me info, such as where it flies to in the USA, and where it flies to from the USA? Anyone with any experience on this bird?

Thanks!

best bet would be to track it on fligtradar24. Eva flies from LAX/SFO/SEA(?)/ORD(?) to Taipei. So you probably wont know until the day before it flies. I wish I would have known about FR24 when I was trying to hitch a ride on Shamu on WN.

You're gonna need to go to Taiwan, because all that plane has been doing is regional runs to Japan and South Korea. I don't think EVA's 330s can fly to the US anyway, they look too dense of a seat configuration to have the range to do it. Also they do not have business class, which is a must for a US route

The misinformation is painful here!

EVA's websites are posted in multiple languages, so you do not need to speak Mandarin. It flies daily between TPE and ICN/ FUK. A same flight transfer would be feasible at ICN but potentially more challenging at FUK. (https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/b-16331)

And, of course EVA's 333's have Business Class! Total hokum.

All Sanrio themed aircraft have designated routes so it is easy to catch. Be aware of scheduled maintenance however. I'll eat my hat if you are committed enough to head over to TPE to catch this a/c. Please post a photo if you do.

I appreciate all the responses. I didn’t even think of FR24. And the price for TPE-FUK isn’t bad at all. I may start building a trip soon to go to TPE for a few days, then to FUK and who knows where after that.

EVA has a dedicated site for the Hello Kitty fleet: http://www.evakitty.com/en/index.html The "Travel Fun" aircraft is the Bad Badtz-Maru A330.

It's not mentioned on the site, but EVA's sister airline UNI Air also has an ATR 72 painted for Bad Badtz-Maru. I don't know if it operates on a fixed schedule like the Hello Kitty jets, but it does domestic flights from Taipei-Songshan Airport (TSA). B-17001 is the registration.

Also note that if there is some sort of issue and you don't end up getting the scheduled Hello Kitty jet, they still have all the Hello Kitty service items on the inside of the aircraft. This happened to my wife when she was booed on the Sanrio Family Hand in Hand 777 from TPE to LAX.

The Badtz Maru looks pretty cool.

Flew on the EVA Hello Kitty recently without realizing, until I arrived at the airport...and it was quite an experience. Hello Kitty plane, Hello Kitty boarding pass, Hello Kitty headrest cover, Hello Kitty pillow, Hello Kitty cutlery, Hello Kitty cup, Hello Kitty barf bag, Hello Kitty napkins, and so on and so on...virtually EVERYTHING.

Keep in mind for the full experience, you need to get on a flight that stocks the service items. I flew aboard B-16333 (Sanrio Characters) from TPE-MNL (lucky frame swap) but they stocked the regular BR service items. Safety cards are still themed though!\

Still holding out for B-16205 (Gudetama) but I have no plans to go to SDJ :P

I appreciate all the information I have received here. As has been said, it takes dedication to do a trip like this from my region (STL would be my departure point). But it will be a cool trip nonetheless. Thanks You everyone for your responses. I will be sure to post a trip report when I finally do this.
