Will supersonic flights ever make a comeback?

Mon Feb 10, 2020 4:20 am

Since the Concorde crash in Paris in 2000, and the last flight in 2003, will we ever see supersonic air travel return?

Its not cost effective for the airlines. Maybe technology will change that.

Technically they didn’t; just got a pretty decent ground speed.

First and foremost - its all about money. Supersonic travel is expensive.

It making a comeback will require the convergence of enough routes where a demand exists, enough people who will pay the premium, and technology that makes it cost effective. So far, that hasn't happened. If anything, haven't airliners slowed down to save fuel?

With global warming supersonic travel is no go. It would be a PR disaster if someone tried to propose such in this day and age.

I watched a Smithsonian Channel documentary on the Concorde today. There was a large cry that it would deplete the ozone layer. It didn’t.

I got $20 says AA takes their 787's with GE powerplants. Just a hunch. Any takers?
