Will Aeroflot leave SkyTeam next?

Tue Feb 11, 2020 7:54 am

Well, seems like another ST carrier is now focusing on an airline outside ST now. I see that Aeroflot is going to partner with JAL soon and also SN later this year. So if SU will continue to partner with non-ST airlines like JAL, Finnair etc, will this be the next airline to leave ST?

Well, who else could Aeroflot have partnered that offers strong service in Japan (ANA) or Finland?

Though, it's interesting considering JAL already codeshares with S7.

I don't think that will happen any time.. Air France and Aeroflot cooperate very well, and lots of flights with DL connections at JFK

CZ has been the latest one so far that already left ST completely this year. They left last year after American invest the airline and pay fee to leave SkyTeam (Not to mention the join of OW as the airline has no plan to do so).

Air Europe will leave, but likely that LATAM will come in its place.

Aeroflot isn't going anywhere, you see more and more non-alliance partnering the last few years.

Aeroflot codeshares with almost every international airline in SVO, but SN/AY/BT are only to/from BRU/HEL/RIX and beyond, i.e. for feeder flights. Moreover, there are very few really valuable destinations (with reasonable pricing) - US with DL/B6, Thailand with PG and maybe some more in Asia. Europe with AF/KL is very expensive, e.g. SVO-MAN is 15k on AF/KL (even with SU segments) and 20k on SU.

Show me the Japanese and Finnish Skyteam airlines they could have cooperated with...
So many alliance carriers have cooperations with airlines outside of their own alliance that it doesn't mean anything at all.
If you ignore your alliance partner in a country and go with its rival, now that's something different
