DAL or MDW

Fri Mar 06, 2020 9:54 pm

Looking at booking a flight on Southwest and have two options for a layover, both are long (~3.5 hours). Would it be better to have the layover at Midway or Love Field? Is there more to do at one as opposed to the other, or is one much better than the other for a layover? Pricing is the same either way

I'd probably pick DAL because it runs a bit more on time and is less crowded. It can be hard to find a seat in a bar/restaurant at MDW, though things are improving somewhat. Spotting and things to do either than eating and drinking are limited both places, though you'll likely see a few more "exotic" carriers (Y4, PD) at MDW.

Been a long time since I've been through DAL but the food option re-do at MDW royally stinks unless you're into paying $20 for a Home Run Inn pizza which you can get at Aldi for $1.99. And walking the concourses stales out after an hour.

On the website, DAL appears to have it going on. At least you can bar hop or something.

Is this a round-trip? My personal choice would be to choose one of each. But if this is a one-way, I will tell you that MDW is a VERY crowded facility, and if there are any kind of weather delays, it can get claustrophobic. It is, however, ridiculously easy to navigate and distances aren't terribly far.

We found the food choices to be rather "airport-ish", which is saying acceptable quality items at captive-market prices. Can't speak to DAL.

Haha, I'm from BHM so have a good bit of Whataburgers there. I've never liked it that much though.

PHL-BHM. Usually take American since they have direct (or DL because PHL-ATL-BHM is a pretty good route as well that doesn't take as much time as flying UA and connecting at ORD or WN connecting somewhere like this scenario) but going to take WN this time because of 2 checked bags, as I'm coming home from school for summer

If you're flying PHL-BHM, then I'm voting MDW because DAL is much more out of the way than MDW.

Yeah, I thought about that, but the layover in MDW is a little longer and both get into BHM at around the same time
