Why didn't Air Canada order the MD80

Tue Apr 21, 2020 4:12 pm

Air Canada had a large fleet of DC9s over the years, the MD80 would have been a natural fit to progress to, yet the never ordered them. I have fond memories of flying on the AC DC9s to CYSJ over the years to go to the cabins my family owned along the St, John river

Air Canada did order the MD-80, but it never went beyond option status. If you look, you’ll see McDD set aside some line places for them. (Never built).

The turn toward the 727-200, then intimately the A320 series made more sense as both were more capable airframes, still within the required “150 seat” niche.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!
