Your last trip and the next trip you cancelled

Thu Apr 23, 2020 8:53 am

What was the last trip you took and what was the next/upcoming trip you had that you had to cancel due to Covid-19?

My last trip: Bali, between Dec 25 and Jan 1, although we cut the trip short. We had been to Bali at least 15 times before but found it incredibly crowded and didn't really enjoy ourselves, so we ended up flying back a day before new year's eve.

Next trip cancelled: I was meant to go to Abu Dhabi for work. Unfortunately my client put a ban on people from where I live visiting their office, so I cancelled the trip. And after that virtually 100% of flights in and out of where I live were cancelled.

My last trips were all in January and February:
Germany - Hong Kong
Germany - Japan
Germany - Algeria

The planned trip, that was cancelled was a trip to Saudi-Arabia, somewhere a week before departure the border was closed and the flights were cancelled.

My next upcomming trip will be to Israel on Monday. Flight is booked, quarantine planned. Not looking forward to it... but work work...

Last trip (late Feb)

DEN - IAD United
IAD - DEN United

Upcoming trips should have been:

June
DEN-MKE United
MKE- DEN United

Then a trip to Sheffield for my Uncle’s 80th birthday:

July
DEN-LHR. BA
LHR-MAN. BA
MAN-AMS. KLM
AMS-DUB. KLM
DUB-SFO. Aer Lingus
SFO-DEN. United

I was using miles (had BA miles I needed to use or lose) and those three legs made the travel more interesting. Coming home to Denver, I would have had close to a 24 hour stopover in Dublin.

Last trip was Ukraine for a few days in early March.

Next trip should be a short break with my partner in Menorca in early May - that will be cancelled. Also had several trips planned but never actually booked during March and April, to San Fran and China for work, neither of which will be happening for a while.

It's funny - but I guess not surprising - how many of these trips were relatively mundane. My last trip was BNA-JAX-BNA on a couple of WN 73Gs in early March (and I actually had to look up whether they were 73Gs or 738s because I could not recall), and my next trip was to have been BNA-YYZ / BUF-BNA on an AC E90 and WN 73G.

Last trip was at the end of February IAD-CLT-MYR r/t to visit my in-laws.

I've since had a trio of work trips cancelled: IAD-CLT-SEA-DFW-IAD and DCA-STL-DCA at the end of March, and another IAD-CLT-SEA-CLT-IAD trip for early June cancelled. And of course, all three were already booked, so even though I didn't get to go flying, I still had to submit the expense reports for the cancelled trips which was just insult to injury.

Last completed trip in the first week of march:

AMS-GLA-BRR-GLA-KOI-NRL-PPW-WRY-KOI-ABZ-AMS

That was to log the two Loganair exclusives. This being the Barra Beach landing and the shortest flight in the world petween PPW-WRY (my flight time was 1 minute and 10 seconds :o).

--------------------------------------------------------------

I had to cancel the following, 26/27 March iirc:

AMS-CPH / MMX-BMA / ARN-OSL-AMS.

Was really looking forward to the train ride across the Oresund bridge, followed by the BRA AR1 to BMA. The type has been retired and the airline is bankrupt now, so I can forget about the flying part in the future. The dodgy OTA I used to book the tickets refused to refund me the money after all flights got canceled by the airlines. Thankfully I was able to get the money back via my credit card company, leaving me only with emotional damage for the canceled trip.

It's been two years since my last flight, and 10 months since my last trip anywhere via any mode of transport. Last flight was in late January - early February 2018, when I flew to JAX to visit friends. June 2019 was an Amtrak trip.

I had a trip scheduled this July to Rome. I was due to fly TAP IAD-LIS-FCO.

My most recent / latest trip (I don't like using the word 'last') was PHX-MSP-PHX to get my 757th logged flight on the way home...onboard a DL 757. In this case a 757-351...my first DL 757-300 and only my second ever. This was the weekend of 14/15 March 2020...the weekend before the announced beginning of mass flight reductions. My flying is nearly all as a revenue passenger...I'm not an airline employee nor do I have flight benefits other than being an AS MVP for a few years running now.

I didn't have any future flights booked that needed cancelled. I hope to someday be able to get to my 767th logged flight and do it aboard a 767 (as well as 777th & 787th.) I'm on a roll with the 737th, 747th, and 757th. We'll see...

My last trip was DFW-IAD-DFW in mid-March. As the virus was starting to become more than something on the television in faraway lands, inbound to IAD was half-empty. Everyone on the upgrade list got a seat upfront and the cabin still wasn't filled. On the return, both the terminal and the plane were packed with connections from Europe as the EU travel ban was about to kick in and expatriates returning in droves.

It's when I landed in DFW it really hit me. I had to change terminals to get to my car... There was a period of about 10 minutes walking and riding the monorail when I did not see another soul. That would have been beyond the absurd on a Friday at 9 pm even a week before...

My next, cancelled, flight, would have been another IAD two weeks later, but by then my employer had banned all travels.

Just before the Corona virus reached Europe I made a nice trip.

Eindhoven - Vienna - Milan Malpensa - Bari - Budapest - Eindhoven.

Or, to put it otherwise, EIN-VIE-MXP-BRI-BUD-EIN.

Didn't have anything planned after that, so nothing needed to be canceled.

My last trip was BOS-EWR-SAN booked to enjoy UA's 757 on EWR-SAN for some fun and visiting family. Then SAN-SFO on WN to take my lady friend to Sonoma and enjoy SF, then a Mint a321 SFO-BOS back home.

We had to cancel a few heart breakers from a av geek perspective

JFK-PEK-KIX and HND-PEK-JFK on Air China, I was very excited to visit Japan for the first time and very excited to fly the 748 on JFK-PEK, and enjoy a330s to and from Japan as well as a 77W on the way back to JFK.

Once that had to be cancelled we booked BOS-LHR-BOS, which would have gotten me an a346 on Virgin and Delta's new cabin on the 764.

Once that had to be cancelled I booked BOS-MIA-BOS on AA's 777 which would have been a novelty since AA has never regularly scheduled the type on that route before and I was able to upgrade to first class for $30, and I haven't flown first in about 20 years.

Of course that was cancelled as well and I am over it, but I did miss out on some pretty rare and exciting types to fly.

We have a family trip to Vancouver and Seattle scheduled for late June... Not cancelled yet but we see it as 50/50.

My last trip by airplane was round-trip SAN-BNA on Southwest, non-stop both ways, for a wedding in Chattanooga. My husband and I arrived in Nashville on a Friday afternoon, and had lunch in downtown at Rippy's, feeling the excitement in the area of people waiting for Friday night fun to start. As much as we wanted to stay and join in the fun, we proceeded to Chattanooga by car (a rental Camaro RS convertible!!), enjoyed the wedding and all the family we saw, and Monday evening we flew home.

Our last trip of any type was a meet-the-Bakersfield-family-in-a-beach-house-in-Santa-Barbara-the-weekend-before-Thanksgiving road trip, which also included a side trip to San Luis Obispo and Hearst Castle. Round trip from San Diego was 900 miles, including through Los Angeles both ways. Except for the insanity of what L.A. traffic can be, it was a great trip.

We had our Puerto Vallarta trip canceled, of which today would have been my first day back teaching school after a late arrival last night. We are still "dealing" with the travesty of an airline, Volaris, which won't answer phones, respond to e-mails, but will send me e-mails three days late informing us, "it's almost time to travel!". The matter of no contact whatsoever from them has been turned over to my credit card company, which will settle the matter for better or for worse. My school friend has flown Volaris all over Mexico and swears by them, but to me they will always be horrible for taking my money and refusing to contact me or refund me for services not rendered.

Just before quarantine, we purchased a family reunion set of tickets for this June from BFL and SAN to DEN, connecting DEN-XNA. Mom would meet us in Denver, and we'd fly together to Arkansas. Fifty different places United informed us, "all tickets purchased in March are fully changeable with no fees". Thankfully, this won't be the problem Volaris was...

We didn't purchase, but if the Bakersfield family was going to do the Santa Barbara beach house thing again, we were going to take the train from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, rent a car, drive to Santa Barbara and visit, then return to San Luis Obispo and fly the Alaska/Horizon non-stop SBP-SAN. For anyone who hasn't taken a Pacific Surfliner or the Coast Starlight through Vandenburg Air Force Base, you are missing one of the great undiscovered scenic wonders of California. And a less-than-one-hour flight back home? Oh, no - we'll miss all the fun of the L.A. gridlock - whatever will we do?

In January, I had been looking at our finances to see if we could afford to visit Berlin in late September/early October for a few days. I planned it out, but then postponed it until 2021. I wonder if that will happen now...

Last trip was last week on the 20th of April:

Empty TBIT at LAX, it was just crazy. Not to mention CDG with almost all terminals closed.

My last trip was in september.

My next trip is scheduled for September, dependent upon whether borders are open

LHR-FRA-ADD (LH A343)
ADD-FRA-LHR-MSD-BOS-MSP

Is that trip is canceled a backup trip is scheduled for November MSP-MIA-SCL-MIA-MSP
As of Dec 2019 I've flown 457,440 miles on 270 flights on 54 airplane types with 60 airlines traveling thru 104 airports. I've visited 60 countries.

Hadn't flown too much in the past couple years but had a sailing trip out of New Zealand to Niue in July/19 and got me back into travelling mode.
Had great flights
YXU-YYZ AC DH8A looks like last -100 flight
YYZ-ORD AC E75
ORD-ALK NZ 789
AKL-WRE NZ DH8C
IUE-AKL NZ A20N
AKL-SFO NZ 77W
SFO-YYZ AC 789
YYZ-YXU AC DH8A

Really enjoyed the flights so planned a marathon. End of Jan just as the virus was spreading out of China got it done.
YXU-YYZ AC DH8C
YYZ-FRA AC 77W
FRA-LAX LH 380 1st and maybe last A380
LAX-YVR AC 320
YVR-YYZ AC 763
YYZ-YXU AC DH3C

Was planning a trip thru JNB probably with Delta thru ATL. Then either come back thru europe or middle east to North America maybe getting on a A350. Might never get to do that with Delta talking about down sizing. Also wanted to get on a Qantus 747 SYD-JNB or South America over the southern oceans. Looks like I might have missed those too.
Should have learned. I had a chance to fly on Concorde with a low fare but seemed high at the time. Then the crash and grounding. Same as now. Don't put off what you can get done today cause it may never be possible again.

Last trip: Late November to Japan SQ BNE-SIN-NRT and domestic flights on JL/NH

Next (Cancelled) trip: Roadtrip to visit family in July BNE-ADL. I usually fly, but decided I would drive. Will probably go later in the year if I can get leave approved.

I was in the early stages of planning an overseas trip to Norway and the UK 2Q 2021. That's now on hold indefinitely.

My last flight was FRA-MAD-FRA on Latam in February (02/12 - 02/20).*
Back then I was already glad to have taken that trip as I had read, a few days before departure, that LA were going to discontinue the tag-on in favor of a direct 3x weekly SCL-FRA-SCL in June.

Then, in early March, I firmed up plans for a FRA-LIS-OPO-LIS-FRA trip, settling on dates (04/16 - 04/20), but I was a bit reluctant to book for as bad news started rolling in. A wise decision as mere days later everything began to shut down and Germany issued its global travel warning. I'd consider this near equivalent to canceling a booked trip.

I had also planned a trip to the US some time in late July - mid August but hadn't settled on any firm dates or specific routings yet. Over the past 2-3 weeks I've starting to give up my remaining hopes of that happening, I can consider myself lucky if I get to leave the country at all in 2020, let alone traveling intercontinental (on an objectively very much so non-essential trip).

(*) - I'd say there's about a 50% chance I caught (a very mild case of) COVID around then, I'd love to take a serology test as soon as I can. Not only did I extensively discover MAD, making a lot of use of an unlimited Metro pass, I also took a train up to Bilbao for the weekend and partook in the nightlife there. Most of the more recent models assume that the virus was already spreading rapidly but undiscovered for weeks before the catastrophic outbreak in the Madrid community become visible. About two days after returning home I got a cold and a scratchy throat that lasted for a few days, so who knows.

My last real trip was luckily back in November to France.
Last domestic trip was weekend at end of February, GRJ-JNB-GRJ with FlySafair

Was due to do a weekend trip again on 26 March, literally the day lockdown started in South Africa

Cancelled trip in May:
GRJ-JNB (Kulula), JNB-MRU-SIN/KUL (MK...not sure if I'll get anything back or credit voucher be worth something, now with MK in administration)
At least got email this morning from AirAsia for credit account being processed for the SIN-KUL leg.

Last one was PIT-PHL-DUB-BHX, BHX-FRA-trains to Ilmenau-FRA-BHX, LHR-PIT. Got hit by lightning at the start of a go-around on final into PIT, quite interesting. I got back about a week before it really hit the fan here in the States.

Next trip, cancelled, was to be Malmö in June. Next one after that, which is unlikely but not cancelled yet, is PIT-STL, non-business. There's a late September trip to Ohrid, MK that I rather expect to be cancelled but I'm really hoping it goes ahead.
