I flew ORD-SEA-ORD on two UA DC-10-30CFs in the summer on 1995. Believe it or not, these aircraft did not have PSUs above the seat.
Did you know that a Boeing 717-200 is really a McDonnell Douglas MD95-30? ;-)

Detroit was a huge DC10 destination. United operated both the DC-10-10 and DC-10-30 out of Detroit to ORD, DEN, LAX, PIT and SFO
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

Anyway, UA DC-10 (and 747) service at PIT seems limited to the 1970s. TWA also used L-1011s at PIT.

Indeed, and their last DC-10 to join the fleet was N1849U in March 1989 coming from DL. UA, contrary to the other large customer for the type (AA) only added that single second-hand series 10.



Interestingly, this loan UA secondhand DC-10-10 acquisition, is still active with FE as of 06/2020. Impressive resume for this frame. N357FE is of the select ships for the final phase of fleet operations worldwide.

United’s DC-10-10s were all factory delivered with the lower lobe galley, including the 5 which were purchased by DL as a stopgap against L-1011 delivery delays; sold to UA and then leased back to DL.

In the mid-80s, UA tore out the lower galleys, increasing cargo capacity, and replaced them with new main deck galleys featuring the “New Tech” system...which was also adopted by TWA around the same time and called, “Single Serve.” This ridiculous system cooked the meals...on the trays...within the carts..when they worked. Not one of UA’s best moves.

The -30s were all second-hand and retained the lower valleys.

United’s DC-10-10s were all factory delivered with the lower lobe galley, including the 5 which were purchased by DL as a stopgap against L-1011 delivery delays; sold to UA and then leased back to DL.

Except for the three -30ERs lsf CP during the mid-80s. They had the larger forward cargo door.

PF, PG, PH were only short-term (83-87) additions to the fleet and not permanent members.

Yes, I know hence why I said they were leased during the mid-80s.

Back in the 80s UA flew from IAD to BWI on either a DC10 or L1011, believe it was the DC10. It was the last flight into BWI and the first flight out the next day. Continued on to either LAX or SFO.

those were called tag end flights UA also flew a 767 LAX- IAD-PHL as UA 98
