What's the emptiest flight you've been on recently?

Mon May 25, 2020 11:35 pm

16 years ago there was a thread on this: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=248115

But with all the downturn in travel what are the lowest load factor/ most empty flights you've been on recently?

Personally the lowest was my last flight two weeks ago (DEN-RKS-RIW) where I was one of only six passengers on the RKS-RIW segment (operated on a fifty seat UA/OO CRJ200. An earlier ORD-AUS segment I was on that week had twenty passengers out of capacity for 70 on an E175.

About 2 years ago, I was on a WN flight from MKE-BOS that had a total of 23 people onboard a B737-700.

On a (pre-COVID) WN SJC-LAX flight there were three people on my flight. I also read recently of one man as the only passenger on a JL HND-JFK 77W flight (during COVID).

An Air France A321 domestic flight. 10 passengers, 6 of which (not including my party) were deadheading crew.

The emptiest flight I have ever been on was from Frankfurt to Graz, and I think there were about 10 passengers on there.

The last time I've been on a relatively empty flight was in 2011, which I flew BKK-CGK on a 747-400, which subbed for a 777-200 that day.

IIRC only the cabin sections up to doors L3/R3 are active on that flight, with the rest closed off by curtains and cabin lights turned off.

During COVID I've been aboard Belavia flight MUC-MSQ beginning of May: two pilots, four FAs and 14 passengers in an Embraer 195.

My low record was in 2011 on a Sunday morning flight DUS-NUE on Eurowings CRJ900 with NINE passengers.

Last month I was on a UA flight BRU-IAD with 19 passengers on a B787-10. I really hope for UA that there was some good paying cargo in the belly!

I recently flew SNA-IAH on a Monday afternoon. Was a UA 738 with 154 seats. Had about 35 passengers. Not as empty as some, but for me, it was my first time not to have 80% or more load factor in the last couple of years.

I haven't flown since early March, and that flight was actually quite full (~60% LF on AA E190 ATL-LGA).

My all-time emptiest flight was in April 2019: about 15 pax on a Southwest 737-700 on a late-night BOS-ATL flight.

Recently it would my return BNE-PPP trip last week each with roughly 30 pax on a Fokker 70/100.

Pre covid I've been one of 4 pax on a Saab 340, also a few trips late in the evening on sectors like SYD-BNE, ADL-BNE where it's been 20-30 pax on a 737-800.

For long haul I've been on an A380 flight SIN-LHR a few years ago where there must have been only around 80-100 pax in economy.

My most recent flight was fairly empty. It was Sunday March 15, 2020...the day before the beginnings of the schedule reduction for Delta. MSP-PHX on a 757-300. 234 seats with 120 available according to the gate area screen prior to boarding. Onboard, I was the only one in my row of 6; several other seats around me were vacant as well. Haven't taken the opportunity to fly since.

the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

April 8, 2020 on American, DFW to MCO 22 on an A321. The flight I just missed by 10 minutes was supposed to be 8 with me included on the A321.

Round trip on Allegiant 2 weeks ago, CVG-PGD...about 25% full. First time I've EVER flown with Allegiant that every seat didn't have a butt in it.

GMZ-TFN and vice versa was always a safe bet for having most of an ATR-72 to yourself. Record low was 7 pax, biggest load maybe 40 after NYE celebrations, rarely more than 10.
