Where was Legacy pre-9/11 UA Bigger at SFO or LAX?

Hello guys as we are all in quarantine I begin to wonder prior to the 9/11 crises and UA 2002 filing for bankruptcy UA was the dominant airline on the US West Coast with hubs at SFO and LAX and a focus city at SEA. Now my question is which hub was larger at the time SFO or LAX? Any thoughts?

SFO was definitely United's largest west coast hub.

SFO was much larger. Although UA had acquired Pan Am’s Pacific routes in 1986, it was CEO Stephen Wolf who had designated SFO as UA’s primary trans-pacific gateway. LAX was not established officially as a hub by UA until 1995, but for UA, SFO has historically been its cash cow. For the past 30+ years, LAX dominance has seemed to shift at varying times between AA, DL, and UA. Since the merger with CO, UA’s presence has been diminished at LAX as SFO has become a preeminent global gateway that pre-Covid, included non-stops to India and Israel.

So UA had a larger presence at SFO than LAX wasn´t UA the largest carrier at LAX prior to 9/11?

Yes pre 9-11 UA was the largest carrier at LAX, but SFO was larger than their LAX operation.
