Anyone know which cabin this is supposed to be?

Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:57 pm

I really like when airlines have heavy product placement in a movie. AA has been in quite a few and the home alone movies come to mind in which they highlight the international flagship service abord their dc10.
There is this movie called how Stella got her groove back which came out in 1998 and has a lot of AA in it. I am trying to figure out which plane she's on. She was flying from San Francisco to Jamaica. She flies there in first class and the seat is half lambswool (right side) and half leather (left side) which is just weird and makes me think it is some sort of mock-up and not an actual plane. Looking at the windows it looks like a 747 to me but AA had long decommissioned those. It's def not a 757/767 window and doesn't look like a dc10.

Later she flies coach when she loses her job and has to fly to her friend in the hospital (rough!) And the windows look the same.

Any ideas here guys?

It looks like old surplus AA seats that were acquired by a Hollywood studio. I recall reading about such a place in the Los Angeles area that specializes on that sort of thing. My guess is a wide body reproduction of some sort. The aircraft type could be some sort of generic.

One thing I notice is that the windows in first class (second picture) look very different from the windows in economy class (last picture). Therefor I assume those shots were filmed in two different aircraft, or at least different mock-ups. For movies they usually don't shoot on board of a real aircraft.

But since the shots are very unclear it's hard to tell. Downloading the movie now to see if I can get a better view.

The movie is on HBO for free right now fyi.

And the plane that lands in Jamaica is a 767 from the outside but that is clearly not a 767 mock-up because the windows are different.

There was so much AA placement in the movie I have a hard time believing it was just some set company like the ones based in LA.

I think AA had its own sets that they lent out/let people come on site for. Because home alone and home alone 2 are another example where it is clearly not some thrown together set, it's an actual built cabin!

Still haven't figured out which type of aircraft it is, but obviously the first one is a different one from the other.

I think this is a 757. The 757 has square windows which are different than the 737, 767, 777 from what I recall. The 747 has squarish windows too.

Also, looking at the curvature of the walls right at the ladies head, it seems to be a narrowbody as opposed to a 747 lower deck.

Example of 752 windows

The first class pic looks like the AA DC-10 interior.

I've flown on WN 737s that have squarish windows.

Yeah guys I think this is the Same dc10 mock-up that aa lends out to other movies.

You can see in this photo from home alone, the main giveaway is that there is the same vertical line in the fuelsalage wall which is there in both photos from the Stella movie which makes me think yeah it is the same plane from one movie to the next.

Actually, the older NGs have squarish windows. They introduced the rounder ones with the Sky Interior circa 2011-2012.

No, those windows look different.

However they do look like the windows on some of the old style 747s, possibly it's a 747SP.

That's why I thought 747 because the windows have that weird cutout above them like they're indented which is very 747. But the AA 747sp had an all blue cabin (I have one of the seats. Teague/Weber never used beige in the AA sp because the blue was more calming for the Japanese business men).

The DC10 has more of an oval window it seems. Plus they were 2-5-2

Did AA ever have San Francisco-Jamaica Non-stop service? I doubt it.

Nope but for a hot moment they did LAX MBJ ... of course on the silver screen you can have a non-stop from Mars to Chicago.

I'm going to guess that this was some sort of AA set that they concocted out of old 747 wall panels and dc10 seats. Because it looks to be identical to the set used for home alone and home alone 2 which I know AA helped film with their fake set.
