Did NW cancel any ordered RC MD-82s ? 12 frames delivered to RC and never more taken up after the merger. Just curious. Seems RC was moving towards a fleet of MDs and 752s at the time. Did NW already have the A320 on Order and not interested in further MDs? Obviously the crash at DTW probably did not help the MDs future at NW.

All RC MD-82s were originally ordered by Southern before the merger of North Central and Southern to form Republic Airlines. In fact, Southern was the MD-80 launch customer.

Neither RC nor NW placed follow-up orders.

The firm order was cancelled in favor of more-30s and four options were taken on -80s. Southern would have loved to have them, but their pilots refused to fly them without a third man in the cockpit. They were finally delivered to Republic.
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

It was an MoU that was never converted to a firm order and instead allowed to expire.

I believe that Zambia Airways ordered an MD-11 in 1990 I think it was. Don’t think it was build though due to them having their own financial trouble in the 90s

Iran Air had its eyes on a Concorde or two, but it came to nothing. Oddly enough, a few years ago the Iran Air shop in Piccadilly in London had -- and maybe still has, I've not been past it lately -- a nice model of a Concorde in Iran Air livery in the window.

Jet Airways (9W) had 787-8 first on order, then upgauged them to 787-9. Neither materialized.

Also NW A340. They eventually took A330s. What I wouldn't have given to see the A340 in the Bowling Shoe colors.

SAA ordered 4 x 777-200 back in 1997 but as usual politics and corruption intervened and the fleet swung towards Airbus.

I'm not 100% sure if it got to be a firm order but I recall VA (Viasa) discussing an MD11 order to replace their DC10
