How were the seats on a DC-3 comfort and legroom compared to today?

Depends on airline, year period etc

The DC3 had an very long service life across many airlines, so would of had an large variance.

In the same way you have some airlines with an 28” pitch on and others with an 34” pitch on an A320.

Very nice. It was about 8 inches wider than 3 across jets like the ERJ145. I haven't been on many, but I never saw the torture class seat pitch of some modern airliners.

Like with modern airliners, seat comfort would depend on the airline operating.

FWIR, DC3's operating in India used to have 21 seats across 7 rows x 3 across seating. Post 1953, most DC3's here had 28 seats with 7 rows x 4 across layout.
Back of napkin calculation:
90" cabin width.
4 across = 18" seat width.
3 across = 22.5"" seat width.

Both better than todays economy class

From memory, for the NAC (National Airways Corporation) of NZ, the government owned domestic carrier later merged into Air NZ the DC3's were 28 seaters, 5 rows of 4 seats and then 3 rows of 3 or less seats.
Maroon upholstery, replaced with blue in the last "Skyliner" configuration.

Thanks for your replies. The airlines I am talking about would be Eastern, Capital, and Piedmont. Time period I guess would be when they first started using the DC-3 til being replaced with newer aircraft. Did the first seats recline?

In 2004 I got to ferry the Delta DC-3 from ATL-MCO. Here's some pics from inside the aircraft and flight.

I rode on DC-3s operated by West Coast Airlines in the Pacific Northwest and then on Air West in the 60's before they were retired. They were three across, seven rows, for 21 total passenger seats.I don't think they reclined, but I don't remember for sure.
