McCarren Av Spotting

Sun Oct 11, 2020 8:44 pm

Hey guys. I need some help please. Ever since I was young I've been an AvGeek. When I moved to Las Vegas in 1993 I immediately discovered the aircraft viewing spot at McCarran International airport and have spent thousands of hours sitting there and other places at the airport watching the planes land and take off. Back in the mid-90's there were all kinds of low-cost airlines flying in to Las Vegas. Some only had 1 or 2 flights a day but was still great to see them. I could have sworn there was an airline called Alliance Air that used to fly a 737-200 into Las Vegas in the evening from Des Moines, Iowa. I can't find anything on the internet about this airline nor here on airliners.net, unless I'm looking in the wrong place. Does anybody else remember this airline OR am I just crazy ? Every time I put Alliance Air in any search engine the Australian airline comes up.

The mid- 90's at McCarran was literally a spotters paradise. Lot's of L-1011's. TWA, Delta, Royal, Air Canada, Air Transat. ATA and Rich International. DC-10's from Hawaiian, United, Canadian and Sun Country.
Other unusual airlines were Champion, MGM, Canada 3000, Tristar, Markair, Midway, Kiwi, People Express, Private Jet, Paradise, Western Pacific, Reno Air and Miami Air.

Thanking you in advance.

Popular vacation places like Vegas are the places you'd expect to see the interesting vacation charter airlines. But these days a lot of vacation flying has been absorbed by the legacies.
When wasn't America great?

Perhaps you’re thinking about Vanguard Airines? They flew 73S aircraft

I was crazy. I decided to look through all the 737-200's shown in photos for Las Vegas and the very last photo was Access Air. That was the name, not Alliance. Thanks for the responses guys. Much appreciated. Now I'll get my straightjacket ready. Stay safe everyone.

You’re not looking in the wrong place, you’re looking up the wrong name. Try AccessAir.

I forgot to put Vanguard on my list so much appreciated. Access Air was the one I was thinking of. It started with an "A". LOL

There's a pic in the database from 2000 of a 737-200 from an airline called AccessAir? https://www.airliners.net/photo/AccessA ... 8snw%3D%3D

Per wikipedia, the carrier was based in DSM, so that may have been it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AccessAir

What about Access Air? They flew to DSM, but I don’t see LAS as one of their destinations. They flew the 73S.

I used to see Access Air at MLI when I was a young kid. I don’t think they lasted all that long. RFD had a few interesting carriers as well. Ryan International and Trans Meridian are two I remember well.

Grand Airways, Air LA, Shuttle By United, Tower Air, and Air 21. Off the top of my head, that's what I didn't see on your list. Then there was Scenic, Eagle, and Air Nevada for the Grand Canyon.
