BA 767s: Where did they fly?

Sun Nov 22, 2020 3:47 am

Hey there, I've been scouring the internet for a long while now to try and find a semi-comprehensive list of routes that the BA 767 flew back in it's heyday - especially long-haul ones like LHR-LAX and LHR-CPT; and I've come up with next to nothing. Would anyone have a list of routes that it flew at least semi-regularly during its time serving for BA? Thanks in advance for any replies.

BA regularly flew the 767 to the following cities:

LHR to:
ATH
FCO
ARN
BWI

MAN-JFK

There are many more, but these are the ones I recall off hand. I believe they operated it on the short lived MAN-LAX service, but it never operated LHR-LAX.

In the USA, ORD, and BWI. I think they might have used it to TPA, but not sure. I would guess other places to.

Canada: At least Toronto and Calgary

In Europe: At least PAR, EDI, ARN, FRA, FCO, ZRH, LCA , Moscow, & MAD I think DUS too

IST in Turkey

In Asia: At least to TLV

I checked the photo database and lots of pictures in IST and Almaty. Also pictures in Portugal, GVA and EWR. Only checked it briefly, so I'll bet other places too.

I flew BA 767s to Moscow, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Cyprus. They were so cramped, probably the most cramped BA flights I’d experienced. Never a fan of the 767. The cabins were so dated and the BA crews - just indifferent in service. I was on a centre aisle seat going to DME once. During a LHR pushback delay, the male/female cabin crew for about 30 mins to my left and right were slagging off the unions and how much they both hated Willie Walsh. I was mid conversation. BA need to sort their act out and stop using “Britishness” as their excuse for a their degraded product.

Well, I had the opposite experience. I took the 767 a couple of times as they were operated to Stockholm Arlanda (I also did an IST once) and found them to be very comfortable in Club Europe. I especially liked the small cocktail tables built in to the end of the arm rests. The crews were also always fabulous. Different experiences to you, that's for sure!
I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

Article lists a few more including Vienna which I don't think has been mentioned.

A daily visitor at AMS (saturdays exepted) on the BA428/429 rotation. Though it was mostly send for the belly cargo capacity, it'd repeatedly go out full in summer as well. a full 50C200Y would be no exception on this 45 minute flight!

I've many fond memories of this aircraft around AMS. Most notably with 'NWZ, who seemed to be the hangar queen of the fleet. Always some tech issue on that one! I'm still sad every time I see BA429 operated by an Airbus..

BA didn't have 767-300ER in the 1980's, they arrived from 1990 onwards.

I don't ever recall SFO being operated regularly but there was a short lived MAN - LAX sometime during the mid 1990's (1997!?). I believe it was a responce to VS who we're considering operaring the route but instead VS added a 2nd LHR - LAX and BA dropped their MAN route soon after.

The 767, in scheduled economy at least, was one of the most comfortable and desired seating layout's.
I flew Club to ATH ... and it didn't seem too bad for a 3 hour flight but, everytime I flew business class on US carriers over the pond it was horrendously cramp!

I agree about BA staff being unprofessional tho! I did a short hop over to Berlin from LHR soon after BOB started .... and the crew we're openly bad mouthing the company explicitly expressing that they were now 'no different to Easyjet.

It used to be a regular visitor to MXP after widebodies were banned at LIN, and before BA started renting additional slot a LIN from Meridiana, which made the use of larger aicraft and additional frequencies to MXP useless (I think until 2005/2006 or so).

Cheers,

It started around 1992/3 I think. Initially BHX - GLA -JFK before both routes independantly went 757... with one having a Toronto or Boston tag if memory serves me right!?

GLA
MAD
LCA
IST
ARN
ZRH
FRA

There may have been a few more that I've forgotten...

I'm certain I flew a LHR-EBB on a 767 in 2012. Classic BA service, but the aircraft's interior was a bit worn.

You got lucky that day. Most of the time it was G-BNWH on the MAN-JFK route.

Does anybody know why WH was solely allocated to this route most of the time?

It was a hangar queen (allegedly). Hence it was exiled to Manchester.

The BA Regional 767s were G-BNWN, G-BNWO and G-BNWU There were 1 or 2 757s (G-BPEC & G-BPEE) on hand.
BA277/276 MAN-LAX
BA183/182 MAN-JFK
Think BA187/186 was GLA-JFK-BOS and BA185/184 was BHX-JFK-YYZ but allowed international passenger to do MAN-JFK-YYZ, MAN-JFK-BOS, GLA-JFK-YYZ (no rights JFK-YYZ and obviously no cabotage)

Started Spring 1993 and had all but gone by September 1994. MAN-JFK soldiered on to October 2008, mostly G-TECH we affectionately knew G-BNWH. There was a period when BA did rotate the 767 by having one operate JFK-MAN-LHR and another LHR-MAN-JFK with the MAN-LHR sectors being the regular shuttle service.

...better question would be which BA routes past and present never saw the 767 in any variant, that should get the A.Net detectives out in force, I suspect the list in comparison would be very small.

I was 767 crew from when I joined at LGW in ‘97 and was on it until they retired them a few years ago.
So during that time I flew it to; New York JFK, Baltimore, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Nassau (continuing to Grand Cayman, or Turks and Caicos), Bermuda, Caracas (continuing on to Bogotá), Accra, Abidjan, Freetown (continuing on to Monrovia), Dar Es Salaam, Entebbe, Lusaka, Luanda, Cairo, Tel Aviv, Baku, Almaty, Moscow, Jeddah, Damman and Hyderabad.

The above list is not exhaustive and not necessarily all from LHR, some from LGW and those were all the longhaul flights I did.
Goes to show you how versatile it was, I miss them !!!

CLT 767s were US Air, not BA were wet leased. BA used a 777 to CLT.
