So I have a question for DL flight crew or someone who might know the logic for blocking seats for covid.
Recently flew CUN-DTW on an A333, it was pretty much empty showing 186 economy seats available right before departure. We were back in 36 H/J and every row 37-42 were empty, we heard a flight attendant across the aisle offer people to move around if they wanted so we decided we were going to move back to 38 because there was a passenger immediately in front of us in row 35. We were promptly stopped by a flight attendant saying all the rear rows were blocked for covid and we could not move back there - it didn't make sense to me but I'm not one to try to argue.
What gives? I'm sure if this flight was booked to capacity (well covid capacity) those last 6 or so rows would have been utilized.
