Practically: Air Berlin as a competitor to keep prices from monopoly hikes.
Plus Euroberlin France and Laker probably.
Pan Am and Interflug would be interesting to try out today as well. I certainly would love to see Braniff's spectacular Calder liveries again.

2. American Airlines (you know, the way they were 30 years ago)
3. Northwest Airlines (love their older fleet)
4. Canadian Airlines
5. Aloha Airlines

I've only flow AA and Aloha out of the 5.

PSA with the smile on the planes. Brilliant branding. Plus, back in the day, I remember walking up to their ticket counter at SFO, paying cash, and watching them ring it up on an old fashioned cash register. The small receipt that it printed was the ticket.

I could fill some spots on a 'not missed' list but that's not quite in the spirit of the thread.

For me, Independence Air.

The level of customer service they provided was far and away better than any other US carrier in the main cabin. Hot towels and mints before arrival on every flight, a choice of brand name snacks (similar to JetBlue but with somewhat more variety), and incredibly friendly, caring staff members that obviously enjoyed their jobs and wanted to be there. The experience was like B6 on steroids without the PTVs.

In a way though, I guess you could say they were doomed to fail. The CRJs were gas guzzlers and the company expanded extremely quickly and over-added capacity in markets where it made little sense to do so (think ALB-IAD 7x/day). I smelled trouble when the A319s were delivered without the promised PTVs (something to do with a lower lease payment from Airbus) and one of the CRJs were repossessed.
RJ85, F70, E135, E140, E145, E70, E75, E90, CR2, CR7, CR9, 717, 732, 733, 734, 735, 73G, 738, 739, 744ER, 752, 753, 762, 763ER, 772, 77E, 77W, 789, 319, 320, 321, 332, 333, 343, 359, 388

Although AirTran had its issues, I’ll never forget listening to Sirius/XM on AirTran. They were the first to do that, and it was certainly a unique feature of theirs for a while

1) PSA- super friendly little airline, BAE146s with a smile
2) Rocky Mountain- Dash 7s into Avon anyone?
3) Original Frontier (FL)- full meal service between DEN and ABQ and coolest Saul Bass 70s livery.
4) Western Pacific- crazy paint jobs, and made a relatively large, successful hub out of a smallish city (COS)
5) Pan Am- the legend

Would definitively agree on the first three, but would replace LTU with Air Berlin and Varig with VIASA. Germany needs a serious competition for Lufthansa and Venezuela a respected airline. I also have some negative memories about the pretty arrogant behaviour from the LTU side when it was taken over by Air Berlin in 2008/2009.

From a personal side, I would add FlyBe, VLM and Air Aruba as honourable mentions.

For me there's only 1: Tyrolean Airways.
Their service was fantastic and they served routes that no one else does today.

I don't really miss any of the large airlines because they never really left a void. They have merely been replace by other airlines.
