Airline branding at airports

Mon May 10, 2021 4:30 pm

There are many airports with multi use ticket encounter in gates. If all the computers and overhead Computer monitors were shut down, you would never know what airline brand you were flying.

There are also many airports where a terminal or a wing is designed specifically by or for the airline. Color of the carpet. Signage on the walls. Sculptures on the ceiling. Mosaics on the floor.

I was recently at the United check in in Boston. Beautiful new part of the terminal, but so vanilla in terms of branding.

What terminals come to mind where the brand is apparent everywhere?

Terminal 2 at Milan Malpensa airport is known as the EasyJet terminal, EasyJet is the only airline using this terminal. The inside of the terminal is all EasyJet, it's just about entirely orange.

Terminal 5 at JFK definitely feels very 'JetBlue-y'. Its decor screams JetBlue's chic modern brand. Terminal 5 at LHR also has BA logos everywhere.

The new concourse A at SLC is full of DL signage and branding everywhere. The logo, the name, even images of aircraft in DL’s fleet are located several places throughout the concourse. Even in the satellite B concourse UA has their signage and logo on the walls where their three gates are located.

Southwest at Dallas-Love. Branding in the jetbridge, pictures of WN planes on the walls, and so much more.

Delta at Atlanta as well. They tend to absolutely blanket the inside of their jetbridges with promotional posters at hubs. I've also seen pictures of Delta planes on the wall and plenty of Delta customer service desks scattered around everywhere. There are stands that hawk DL credit cards and ads overhead on screens for the reserve card.
Next flights:
Who knows? :/

No mistaking concourse A and B at BWI for anything but Southwest gates

With common-use technology, airline-specific terminal/gate branding and even those airline-specific jetway signs are a bygone era. In the US, you will find hub airports still maintain strong airline branding for that associated airline hub (think DL in ATL or the aforementioned SLC new terminal). But as more spoke airports in the US transition to common-use technology, branding then becomes a more temporary fixture (think the signs and stanchions used during boarding, the signs advising customers about the carry-on sizes, and signs at check-in placed at the entrances for specific cabin classes).
