Mon May 17, 2021 7:08 pm

Can anyone in the know say when Emirates will resume daily Dubai-Bologna and return?
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

The airline has already resumed the route as EK93/94.

It's operating 3 a week now, goes up to 4 a week in July and 5 a week in November.

Thanks but that's not daily as my dates in September return no results.

Most airlines can’t even plan a month into the future due to all the changing entry conditions and regulations. The only answer is, when demand justifies a profitable operation. There simply is no better answer to it.

How is the route doing? I flew this a couple years ago, and the plane was empty. That was during Eid break in 2019. A few days later my friends also flew this and the plane was also empty.

Perhaps this route can be taken over by flydubai? They have a lot of secondary Italian destinations served with their 737. Unless BLQ does particularly well for some reason to justify year round WB service.

In that case you just got to settle for other dates. In these days of low demand you can't expect airlines to adapt to you, you got to adapt to them.

The main reason behind EK deploying the 77W instead of leaving flydubai to operate the route to BLQ is heavy cargo load AFAIK.

Actually no. Back before covid the route was a strong performer. Bologna and the surrounding areas are important business, technical and industrial areas. I have personally flown the route at least 3 X returns over the last few years, and in my experience the 77W always seemed pretty well filled up.

flydubai only serves Napels and Catania in Italy tbh. Hopefully when they resume them they'll be on a MAX. The MAX can do BLQ and is properly equipped to handle EK customers. I don't know BLQ but if it's heavy on cargo/industry one might prefer to keep the 777 for that alone. You could maybe look at adding an offset rotation in to try and develop that timeframe aka a night departure out of BLQ. Or something along those lines. That's where I feel the MAX might be useful to EK. To create a 'new' market without too much initial expense. Post Covid a lot of things are different however...

I agree, I flew this route every September from 2014-2019 and the 777 was packed both ways every time.

Flying to MXP adds hours to my journey within Italy by train so hopefully by the time I want to travel the flights are back, assuming we are allowed to travel of course.
