Status of RR-equipped 767s

Wed Jun 09, 2021 12:23 am

Since British Airways and Qantas have retired their RB211-powered 767s, are there any 767s still flying today with the RB211s?

If so, who is operating them?

According to airfleets, all of the BA ones were parked and are either scrapped or sold off. All of the Qantas ones were sold to Dynamic and are still operating under Eastern.

Apparently G-BNWD is still at VCV.

The record for G-BNWH also said partly scrapped. Not sure what precisely that means. Could be no engines, could mean fuselage sectioned.

Based on most recent photos on competitor's website,
G-BNWD has its cockpit removed recently, slats, engines, 1F & R and 4L & R door removed, rudder partially gone too.
G-BNWH still has its cockpit intact but all slats, engines and doors are gone, rudder partially gone too.
Both on the way to heaven......

Yes. Although QF operated RB211 747, its 767-338(ER) were GE engined.

QF also had a small fleet (6 or 8 cant remember) of ex BA 767s that had RR engines and emergency exits doors (as opposed to overwing exits) , these were the first 763s in the QF fleet to be retired.

It was 7 frames. I believe it was originally a 7 year lease from BA 2000-2007, which was either extended or sold to QF (not sure which), but ultimately they never made it back to BA. In the QF fleet they were exclusively short haul aircraft, although early on they appear to have operated trans Tasman ops. There is anecdotal evidence/urban legend one did a PER-NRT run once as a last minute substitution with a modified meal service as the galleys were speced different from the International -338ER fleet which normally flew that sector.

I used to dread seeing one of these aircraft at the gate as they didn't have individual aircon vents and were quite stuffy to ride on compared to the native -338ER fleet.

Correct jrfspa320 and Kent350787,

Qantas and British Airways arranged for a B767-300ER lease in 1999 when the latter faced overcapacity issue. Seven Boeing 767-336ERs were leased and subsequently purchased from BA in later years with first entering service from August 2000. Those seven RR-powered B767-336ERs operated along with QF's own GE-powered B767-338ER.
