Cool routing - we don't often see big great circle routes in the southern hemisphere. I wonder if the test team even notices?

Others have also been asking about the return - whther it will travel via the US to pick up cargo, or other duties elsewhere.

This flight must be up there with the longest ever with a 787.

You can track the flight live here: https://www.flightradar24.com/QFA6079/2835fc4e

This route more than an hour longer than the world's longest flown route pre-Corona (SIN-JFK).

The flight plan is on flightaware.

VH-ZNF will track just south of Easter Island, then over Chicalayo and Iquitos in Peru, then via ILMUX and EGOSU in Venezuela and DAREK to Grenada, then up to St Lucia.

Isn't Venezuela restricted airspace?

Overflight permits can be difficult to impossible to obtain from the Venezuelan government and have been rescinded prior entry due to “money”.

Wait… wasn’t the flight supposed to change over to JFK (from EWR) per November 2020? Hasn’t that happened because of Corona? Or did SQ change their minds?

QF 6079 made a turn more to the east after reaching the coast of Peru. Looks like the track will now keep it south of Venezuela.

Now headed more northeasterly again, looking like it will cross Venezuela.

Off topic, but maybe related, an Australian Global 7500 operator, with 9 pax, just did MEL-OKC non-stop in 16.3 hours. Long range flights become more common.

SIN-JFK non stop is only temporary. It will eventually revert back to EWR. Pre-Covid, the flight was SIN-EWR, not JFK.

Does anyone know the answer re expected return routing? It would be a long non-stop return to Australia against the jet stream.

PS any clue why this has been moved to travel polls and preferences?

According to a post in the Aust. Aviation Thread, it will return to BNE via LAX.
