Air shows in the US are boring

Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:30 am

Just saw a few minutes of Oshkosh and skimmed through the rest

Only so many light aircraft aerobatic maneuvers I can watch before zzzzz, and the same old format, you can count on way too many T6 displays, loud, obnoxious music, aircraft parked that would be more interesting in a flying display and vice versa

With the exception of the Blue Angels and a few isolated displays the US just doesn’t come close to the Farnborough and Paris air shows, they’re far more interesting with great choreography, loads of interesting aircraft flying and next to no boring moments

I don’t think this is going to change though

The loudspeaker music is the worst. I want to hear airplanes, not somebody's cheesy-ass playlist.

I’ve been to both multiple times (unfortunately came with the job) and they’re weren’t anything to rave about, either. But they do offer more variety of demos and less boredom compared to OSH. The last Sun & Fun flying wasn’t exciting, either. The old Harrier demo at FAB was impressive, as was the F-22 and F-35 at DWC. You’re right about never-ending acro displays in a Pitts.

Rhinebeck Aerodrome puts on a good show.
