Delta Regional Carriers 2009 and on

Fri Nov 26, 2021 11:45 pm

Hello! I’m trying to log my Flight Memory Delta flights from 2009 and on using transtats.bts.gov website. (Which shows specific departure arrival and tail numbers) My challenge is finding the specific regional airline Delta used on certain flights (DTW-MHT, DTW-ROC etc). I have the Delta Flight number but the website requires the specific Regional carrier name.

Does anyone have a list of regional carriers for Delta from 2009 until present or possibly a better way to search on the transportation website?

Thank you for the help!

I suppose that there are several ways to do this. If you go to the BTS on time database and look for the city pair for the date you are looking for, you do get the tail number(s) of the airplane(s). Could you not go to rzjets.net or Planespotters to find out which airline operated that aircraft?

At the time of the NW merger in 2008 /2009 the DTW regional flying was in Mesaba XJ SF3, CR9, and a few CR2s.
Pinnacle / Endeavor 9E has most of the CR2 flying at DTW, can’t remember when they started up CR9 flying.
Compass has the E75 flying.

Comair, Mesa, and EV/ASA ops were rolled into DTW post merger but that was more 2010 / 2011 timeframe.

I am pretty sure both of those routes were Mesaba. I flew DTW-MHT in 2009 on XJ CR9s

I was a XJ FA in 2009. We flew both of those routes. DTW-MHT on the CR9 and DTW-ROC on the CR2 with some CR9s thrown in depending on the day. If you have the flight numbers, it wouldn’t be hard to find an old timetable from that period to see what carrier had what flight number ranges.

Also the Delta flight number doesn’t always match the actual flight number of the regional.

Once you find out the answer, please let us know.

That is the issue. And it seems like the BTS site requires a specific airline for the search……unless I’ve really missed something. Through the years I have researched several hundred flights using BTS.gov. The following three have driven me crazy:

DL3917 DTW-MHT on 5/17/2011
DL4309 DTW-ROC on 6/21/2011
DL3986 ROC-ATL on 6/26/2011

Thanks!

In 2011, all those flight numbers were in the Pinnacle range.

What happened there is that some of the regionals carriers were small enough (or eventually became too small) that they didn't need to report on-time data to DOT. Comair became too small. Pinnacle was in there for a while.

Pinnacle makes sense. However, The bts data base doesn’t like Pinnacle; I did a search for Pinnacle flights into DTW for the months of May and June 2011 and the result said “no data found” which can’t be right. That data base has so much great information it’s bound to have a glitch somewhere.

No, that was it. Pinnacle's traffic got to a point where it didn't need to file on time reports. It still filed T-100 data.

I don’t think it’s a glitch. Rather, there was a size threshold for reporting that 9E didn’t always meet post-merger. I think you will find that XJ and CP never reported for the same reason.

Good question 501, I don't know if this will help or not but I flew AUS-SLC on a CR9 N930XJ flight#5715 on 04/08/2009. I believe this was a Mesaba Airlines aircraft at the time and although it was a DL route, the aircraft was still in full NW Airlink colors. Even the plastic beverage cups served inflight were still branded NW. I thought that was pretty cool in the moment.
