What airframe have you flown the most?

Wed Jan 26, 2022 3:28 pm

The exact airframe you fly, especially with a large airline, is nearly impossible to predict at the time of booking. However, if you fly enough you're bound to fly on the same airframe more than once. You could get lucky and fly the same airframe on your only two flights with an airline, or you can fly on 40 Southwest flights and never get the same plane twice. I'm curious to know if anyone who has been flying for a long time has built up a lot of hours on one particular aircraft.

For me, I've flown twice on three separate aircraft:
D-AIGF A343 LH427 PHL-FRA and LH726 FRA-PHL in 2013 (Out and back on the same trip). She's scrapped now.
N815UA A319 UA753 BWI-SFO in 2013 and UA455 BWI-ORD in 2022. Still flying for UA.
N443WN B737 WN75 BWI-SAN in 2003, WN224 PIT-BWI in 2021. Still flying with WN.

I would imagine there are obvious answers if you fly your own plane, or if you frequently commute on an airline with few aircraft. But I'm curious to hear everyone's "favorite" airframe.

The only airframe I've knowingly flown twice is EI-DCY, a Ryanair 737-800.

Not only have I flown it twice, I've sat in the same row twice on that aircraft. Only not in the same seat but not far off. I had this plane for my flight Eindhoven - Pisa and 3 days later for the return flight Pisa - Eindhoven I had the same aircraft again. Pretty impressive on a huge airline like Ryanair.

There might be other airframes which I've flown twice but not that I'm aware of, I usually don't log the registrations.

Looks like SP-LPA (B763ER), it was 3 times. Also SP-LPB (B763ER) 3 times as well. Routes: ORD-KRK, WAW-ORD and KRK-ORD.

Aren't Ryanair aircraft usually based at certain airports for weeks at a time? Still a fun co-incidence, just wondering.

Between 2009 and 2011 I made a total of 54 flights, 35 of them Jump Seated on mexican charter cargo operator´s Aerolineas Regionales (Dba RegionalCargo) leased Boeing 737-2T4C, MSN 23066, LN 992, then registered XA-RCB, involving QRO, MEX, MTY, MID, CUN and NLD airports.
I have to admit that those were great flying times for me!
I am sure that I found myself many times onboard the same Mexicana´s 727-200 or the same Piper PA-28´s I flew on my private and commercial pilot trainning at Mexico´s Aeronautica Panamericana and US´s Flight Safety flight schools.

I hate getting the same frame twice. three times is a tragedy. there are three planes which tore my soul apart
SP-LDK (LOT Embraer 170)
VH-QOA (QANTAS Dash 8-402)
VH-NXG (QANTAS Boeing 717-200)
overall, QANTAS and Air New Zealand were very 'cruel' on me as if suspecting that I am from the other end of the world and that it's so incredibly hard for me to come to their land...

Like I mentioned in the "orphan flights" thread, when I worked for Intel I flew on their corporate shuttles many times. As such I've flown of every airframe in their fleet multiple times. The one I flew on the most was N286DP, an ERJ-145, 21x; that plane was the one that always seemed to show up on the route I flew most often.

If we just limit it to commercial flights, then:
N76153, 767-200, Continental -- 3x
N18220, 737-800, Continental -- 2x
N975AS, MD-83, Alaska Airlines, -- 2x

N936EV and N685BR, both CRJ-200s, 5x apiece.
The CR2 is my most-logged type with 109 segments.

VT-EHC A300B4 - 40+ flights in all through the 90s/early 2000s.

Most flown routes - DEL-BOM, DEL-CCU-GAU, BOM-MAA-SIN, BLR-BOM.
Most interesting routing - BOM-GOI-CCJ-COK. 1:45 direct flight turned into a 6 hour magnum opus!

I think I was on the last flight of this bird as well - MAA-BOM IC173.

VT-JGD - 737-900 (non ER) - 30+ flights.
Most flown route - BOM-DEL. The 2 non-ER 737-900 JGC and JGD ONLY flew BOM-DEL AFAIK. They had the huge J Cabin with 32 seats which were later reduced to 28.

Well, living in Chile, where the three local operators use Airbus 320 family exclusively, it is easy for me to say that a mix of A321/20/19/18, so the whole family of Airbus narrowbodies basically.

2x EI-DLY B738
2x EI-DPF B738 - the funny thing about this one is that I flew in on it from a trip and the departure aircraft for the next trip was exactly the same.

I don't have complete records but there are definitely a few I can verify multiple trips on:

3x N615US - NWA 747-251
3x JA8098 - ANA 747-481 (strangely in four ANA 744 flights, I got this frame 3x)

4x JA742A - ANA 777-281ER
3x JA745A - ANA 777-281ER
The above three frames were used heavily on ITM-HND in the last decade

3x JA708A - ANA 777-281ER
3x JA710A - ANA 777-281ER

4x N792UA - UAL 777-222ER

I'm pretty sure mine is B737-476 LN:2785 (VH-TJY) with three individual flights on Qantas: BNE-SYD, BNE-CBR and CBR-MEL.

There's about half dozen frames I've logged twice, the most interesting was B737-76N LN:1090. The first time with Virgin Blue as VH-VBM on a MEL-BNE sector in 2007, then again eleven years later in 2018 on the other side of the world with SAS as SE-RET on a OSL-TRD sector.

EI-DHF (Ryanair 737-800), PH-EZD and PH-EZX (KLM Cityhopper E190) for me with four times each. Second place with three times each goes to five more Ryanair 737-800s (EI-DAG, EI-DAI, EI-DCK, EI-DLW, EI-DPZ), a KLM 737-700 (PH-BGP) and another KLM Cityhopper E190 (PH-EZZ).
