European Widebody Flights ??

Wed Feb 09, 2022 3:08 pm

Dear All - anyone with an up to date list of intra Euro Widebodies ? From now, running thru the summer ?
Based at LHR so that would be of particular interest. BA seem to have cut all ! IB run a daily MAD-LHR-MAD. TK IST also.
Other than that ..... open to ideas ! Many thanks.

Regarding BA, they regularly send 777s and 787s to AMS/MAD/FCO on short notice especially during summer. So while you may not see them in the schedule, those flights definitely do appear now and then.

Icelandair regularly operates the 767s from KEF to LHR, AMS, CDG and CPH with occasional visits to ARN, FRA and other European destinations in the system.

Singapore flies CPH-FCO-CPH and MXP-BCN-MXP on the A359, while Scoot does BER-ATH-BER on the 787.

Air Europa does quite a lot of intra-Europe flying on the 787, especially on the MAD-BCN route.

Finnair has 2x daily A330/A350 service to AMS and LHR starting this Spring, alongside 2x weekly rotations to BRU.

Aer Lingus had some select A330 rotations to LHR and Spain recently, not sure if they're still operating. They're also operating some random ORY routes for Vueling last that I knew, including DUB and BGY.

Back in the day you could fly an IB A340-600 from MAD-LHR. Nowadays that might still be available on the A350.

Regarding Aer Lingus operating A333 for Vueling, it's out of Paris Orly and will last until the end of the month with ticket as cheap as 60€ R/T.
They operate on ORY-DUB / BGY / NUE / ARN / XRY only.

TUI Netherlands has some GRQ-LPA flights planned on the 767, which is odd as GRQ is only a very small airport. It's a route that would usually be flown on a 737.

Not that the TUI 767 is exactly a comfortable aircraft, they have it in a 2-4-2 layout which is crammed compared to the 2-3-2 layout that most 767s are in. This year will be the last year for the TUI Netherlands 767, it's scheduled for retirement after the summer peak is over. That'll mean the end of the 767 in Dutch service, TUI is the last Dutch airline to operate them. They're being replaced by 787s.

IB has flown A350’s to LPA occasionally (usually it’s A320s) and UX sends 787’s there and to TFN regularly.
And BA recently sent its A380’s on crew familiarization flights to MAD and FRA. Lufthansa also sometimes sends the 747-8 and A350 to Palma de Mallorca, and so does Swiss with the 77W.

I've also seen LH putting widebodies, especially the A350, on FRA-MUC vv flights. Mostly they seem to pop up close to the flight rather than being scheduled long before it though.

It's not surpising though - it was a regular A300 route back in the day, and still (outside Covid) has sufficient demand for a widebody.

And for sure B747 on the FRA-PMI run during the holiday season in direct competition against CONDORs newest A330...

Yes, I flew the 748 to PMI last August. So it is coming back this summer?

BA runs a 789 from LHR to STR, at least on some days.

In November I was surprised out of nowhere with an IB A330 from BRU to MAD, seemed that at that time they'd operate one of the flights on Sunday with the 330, not sure if that still holds though (hadn't been loaded yet when I was booking those flights about a month out)

Also, there are a few Air Europa flights to Italian cities (I think Milan and Rome) on 787s and they'll occasionally send a 789 on one of the two daily rotations to FRA they have.

Aer Lingus fly A333s from Dublin to Malaga (daily) and faro (sat only) in the summer.

NEOS will schedule this year B787 on selected flights, like PMI. Unfortunately, the flights are not listed somewhere - only during the online booking process.

The usual suspect JET2 will lease 2 A330 from AirTanker for summer 2022, based at MAN.

Unfortunately, so far, no announcement (yet), regarding OS and WK bringing back the B777/A340 like last summer season.

There are also subs. I once flew LHR-FRA on a 744 after an A300 went tech at FRA and they consolidated an A300 and an A321.

That was a long ptime ago…

And I imagine that the point of this thread is bookable Widebodies in Europe, not one offs…

Yesterday for example I believe BA sent a 772 to Geneva following earlier cancellations.

The trouble is you can’t plan for substitutions. :D

The A330 is still operating on the MAD-BRU evening rotation, tonight EC-NNH is scheduled (in Level colours).

Also looking like TK will put widebodies into MAN this summer too, think they already send them on certain dates / days. My flight from AMM-MAN in June is the A330 all the way back, recently upgraded from a 321 that was originally booked on.

Do TAP still do intra-European widebody flights? Pre-COVID they used to occasionally schedule A330s on routes with strong cargo demand (I remember VIE being a common one).

Probably ZRH-PRN for WK on the 340

Flew their 330 on MAD-VCE pre covid in addition to BCN-MAD 1 month ago. They used to serve CPH, ARN, ATH and sometimes LGW in addition to the typical FCO, MXP and sometimes ZRH services on the Dreamliner.

I'm surprised VIE gets often the A330 or A339 instead of ORY and LHR.

Yes summer schedule 2019 both A340s and A330s were sent to LHR. Managed to pick up an old A330 LHR LIS shortly before she was retired. Not sure whether any are coming North this year or not.

I've noticed the usual smattering of TUI routes from the UK showing as operated by the 787 on Google Flights for this summer. Most typically seem from the likes of LGW, MAN and even BRS to some of the more popular Mediterranean holiday spots in Spain, Greece and Turkey.

Is there a better way to know/see their intended European 787 ops this summer? Even their own website's booking process doesn't feature aircraft type or seatmaps until after payment so it feels like a bit of a gamble booking one of these!

Used to be a good value way of flying their "premium" cabin as the seats are just sold as extra legroom or something to that effect...

Unfortunately a lot of the TUI 767/787 flights are Charters, which aren't always bookable

On a related note, does anyone happen to know if Condor are flying the 767-300 on European routes this summer? Many of the usual routes are now operated by the A330s.

Something more "exotic" - Smartwings is leasing in ETHIOPIAN A350 on Sundays: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/qs1179

Also "exotic" SunExpress leasing in flyPOP A330: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/9h-pop

Corendon with their A330 in full colours: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/9h-leon

JET2, as always AirTanker A330, but on top this summer WAMOS AIR: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ec-maj

TK often upgrades to widebodies on their routes to Frankfurt and Hanover. Almost certainly at the beginning of the summer holidays and at the end of the holidays. So in a way you could book such a flight. You just have to know when the holiday season starts and ends. In HAJ, it might be also related to Volkswagen‘s holiday season.
