Best livery on each aircraft

Fri Mar 04, 2022 4:18 pm

Which livery best suits each aircraft? My opinions (I’m gonna do Boeing, Airbus, DC,MD, Lockheed, Bombardier, and Embraer):
707: Pan Am
717: TWA Final
727: NW Bowling Shoe
731: Lufthansa 1970s
732: Pan Am
733: UA Battleship Grey
734: BA Landor
735: UA Battleship Grey
736: SAS
737: WN Desert Gold
738: AA Bare Metal
739: KLM
738M: Ryanair
739M: United with gold 787 Stripe
741: Lufthansa 1970s
742: TWA Final
743: Swissair
74SP: UA Battleship Grey
744: Too many good ones to choose from. I’m gonna go with Iberia 1977, but almost any livery looks good on this majestic bird.
748: Lufthansa yellow crane
752: IB 1977, TWA Final, UA Battleship Grey, BA Negus, NW Bowling Shoe. Again, lots of good ones to choose from.
752WL: AA Bare Metal
753: NW Bowling Shoe
762: JAL 1990s
763: AA Bare Metal
764: United
772: Air New Zealand
773: Thai
77W: Etihad
788: Aeromexico
789: ANZ All Blacks or KLM
78X: KLM

A300: Lufthansa 1970s
A310: Delta 1960s
A318: Air France
A319: Iberia 1977
A320: United Frienship Retro
A321: Current AA
A320neo: Lufthansa
A321neo: Starlux
A332: Qantas
A333: Turkish
A342/A343: Swiss
A345: Etihad or Las Vegas Sands
A346: Lufthansa Yellow Crane
A359/A35K: Qatar
A380: Emirates
A220: Swiss

DC-1: TWA
DC-2: TWA Lindbergh Line
DC-3: AA 1930s
DC-4: Buffalo Airways
DC-6: SAS Viking
DC-7: SAS Viking, Swissair, AA 1930s.
DC-8: KLM or Iberia
DC-9: NW Bowling Shoe, SAS Viking, KLM, Iberia 1977
DC-10: BA Landor
MD-11: KLM
MD-80: AA Bare Metal, Iberia 1977, Aeromexico Bare Metal
MD-90: SAS

Early Electras: TWA
L-188: Braniff Jellybean
L1011: Eastern

CRJ-200: Old Air Nostrum
CRJ-700: Air India Regional or United Express Battleship Grey
CRJ-900: SAS with red engines. BTW, if I write just “SAS”, I mean the red engine livery.
CRJ-1000: Old Air Nostrum

E135: Air France
E140: Old American Eagle
E145: Loganair
E145XR: United Express new livery
E170: S7 or LOT
E175: Alaska
E190: Current American
E195: Flybe
E190-E2: Helvetic
E195-E2: Binter

Whew, I did it. These are all subject to change, and as you can see, there were some that I couldn’t decide on.

TWA with the globe on the tail 707

Air France Concorde

Honorable mention: ANA 727

Midwest had the best 717 livery to me. I might be a bit biased, though.

E170: Estonian
E175: Egyptair Express
E190: Helvetic
E195: Azul
E190-E2: Widerøe
E195-E2: Belavia

I think I did a pretty good job, although some choices were tough. Either because there were too many beautiful liveries for a certain type or too few. Some aircraft I had to settle for the least bad, there was simply nothing better.

How exactly nobody has put the Air Greenland A330s (-200 or -800) on this list baffles me , the neo in particular is one of the most beautiful liveries I’ve ever seen

Too bad Airliners.Net does not let us upload photos to these threads, we would have a lot of fun on this one!

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks! And yeah, this took quite a while to make.

Personally I don't like the ANA livery nor UA's Saul Bass scheme (although I do love the look of the 727), but I agree with the other choices.
Regarding Air New Zealand, while the two-tone cheatline livery is great, I prefer the 1971 version due to the "Hockey Stick" cheatline.

1971 livery:

Interestingly enough, this is the NZ901 accident aircraft. I chose this photo because you can see one of my favorite airline/aircraft combos (KLM 747) in the background.

1983 redesign:

The Spirit A320neo looks great IMHO. Although it look even better with the raccoon mask.

Agree on the Air New Zealand hockey stick cheatline - great call out. The livery on their DC8 was fine, too. Any thoughts on the 737s that flew for NAC in New Zealand? They were 'plain-Jane' - but nice.

707: The Air-India 707 livery was one of the best for that plane.....there were many others that looked really good on the 707 such as SQ, the old BOAC, QA, LH, TWA., Kuwait Airways, and a host of others....
