I recall flying cross country on Republic in a DC-9. The last leg was ONT-BUR. Pretty short. By contrast, I've also had several rides on a CRJ under America West from MEM to PHX. With winter headwinds it turned out to be about 4 hours block.

Correction: I also flew COU-STL on an Ozark DC-9 (100 miles), so a tie for my shortest mainline flight.

Damn - I forgot this one: Flew on a Piedmont 727 GSO-CLT (81 miles as another poster pointed out). For me, that beats out both HNL-OGG/OGG-HNL and COU-STL for shortest mainline flight.

Shortest mainline was in 1998 on a United 727 from PWM to MHT and then continuing to ORD. PWM-MHT 70 miles.

Also used to fly mainline Delta 727s and 757s on BOS-PWM at 90 miles.

longest regional was PWM-ATL on CRJ9. About 1000 miles

Delta operated a round-robin flight in the 70s-90s from CYUL-MIA-FLL-CYUL on a 722. Air Canada ran a 742 between FLL & MIA along with TW and EA over the years various equipment.

Interesting. Did you fly one of the other legs or what. If you just flew MIA-FLL, I would think it would be much faster to just drive.

Shortest mainline for me would be OGG-HNL on HA (717-200) at 87nm. LIH-HNL is the close second at 89nm. I've done LIH-HNL on an Aloha 732 and a HA 717.

Longest regional would have to be DEN-SBA on a United Express BAe-146. I think it was Air Wisconsin.

Longest regional:
DFW-BDL (I think) on an E175. I can't find any record of this route being run by American Eagle, but I'm almost certain I flew an E175 one way on this route back in maybe 2017 or 18. If I'm misremembering the DFW flight, then the other longest RJ flight is BDL-RSW on a CRJ7/900.

Shortest mainline is BWI-BDL on a 737, most recently in February on a MAX.

Based on your definition of mainline vs. "regional":

Shortest mainline: ANC-ENA, Ravn Alaska Dash 8-100, 51 nm
Longest regional: SEA-SLC, Alaska/SkyWest E175, 598 nm

Based on a more typical connotation of "mainline":

Shortest mainline: HNL-OGG, Hawaiian B717, 87 nm

I jumpseated once on EWR-IAH, XJ E145. 3.5 hours on the "XR" version of the penciljet. Thankfully I got a cabin seat, I can't imagine that long up front with a jumpseater.
I was going to see an ex, we spent a weekend together, and that reminded me why I don't go to Houston.

Shortest mainline is JFK-LGA, but it was a repo and I operated it. I ferried VTBD-VTBS over ten years ago and we blocked nearly an hour, even though it's 20 miles away. On a revenue flight, shortest leg has been JFK-ORH. Late-night tack-on leg, usually with a delayed airplane. Off that plane now, and while I miss it, can't say I really miss it.

It appears I have by far the longest regional flight: YVR to ORD on a Jazz CR9 for 1764 miles.

The shortest mainline flight I have taken probably is a YUL to YYZ on an Air Canada 320 for 316 miles.

Not that interesting as you all's but.

Longest regional: ORD-AUS - 977 miles - UA (SkyWest) E170 during the middle of the pandemic, May 2020.
Shortest mainline: IND-ORD - 177 miles - UA Flown many times on A319/A320/737

My shortest regional though was more interesting, a 9 passenger loaded CR2 on the 106 mile RKS-RIW as part of the same IND-RIW one way trip of May 2020 (flown IND-ORD-AUS-DEN-RKS-RIW due to the vastly reduced schedules of the time). United was running a lot of the Mountain West stations as tag flights, and the flight attendent seemed very confused as to where the flight actually was going as well as whether everyone going to RIW had to get off the plane at the 20 min RKS stop. For some reason I remember telling her we probably shouldn't because I didn't think we could reboard without issue because our tickets didn't mention the RKS stop and therefore gave no indication of our right to board to the ticketing system at the gate. She accepted this argument (I'm not sure in retrospect if it was even a valid concern) and let us stay on. Oh, and she chatted it up the whole time with a recently released federal prisoner sitting across from me. Was quite an interesting and fun experience to say the least!

Paris to Reunion Island is about 5000nm and is considered a domestic flight apparently. Does that count?
