Frankfurt is easy to connect through, however the queues to the security checks can be pretty long in summer time. Just recently Lufthansa announced to precautionary cancel flights (mostly domestic and some Intra-EU), if there are sings, that the airport won't be able to handle the expected masses of passengers. So be careful with leaving the airport. Seven hours should be plenty though.
Frankfurt itself is not a beautiful city. It has some nice areas around Hauptwache or near the Main river, but in my personal opinion it isn't really worth the visit. So if you want to go, don't expect too much. On the other hand it is definitely better going to the city than just spending time at the airport if you have time to spend anyway. If you like a nice view over the area, the observation deck on top the Main Tower is a nice place. And of course there are many good restaurants if you fancy some German food and/or beer.
The best way to get to the city center is by local train (S-Bahn). There are commuter trains (S-Bahn) directly to Hauptwache without need to transfer at the main railway station (the station and the areas around are shitholes, so avoid transfering or leaving there). Those trains depart at Airport Regionalbahnhof and NOT at Fernbahnhof. In case you plan to travel in June, July or August, you can buy the so called "9€-Ticket" which is a current special treat from our government, that allows you to travel the whole month with all commuter, regional and subway trains, all local streetcars, local busses and anything that is considered short distance mass transit in the whole of Germany. This is cheaper than buying two one-way tickets (2x 5,20€) or even a one-day pass (10,50€) for the area!
Just a quick reminder: LHR is not part of Schengen, so you will need to clear customs/immigration twice that day!
