KLM Latest to jump on Premium Economy bandwagon

Flyers bound for The Netherlands will soon have an additional cabin class choice aboard KLM between traditional economy and World Business Class: Premium Comfort.

The first flights featuring Premium Comfort seats have not yet been announced but are anticipated to start flying to and from North American destinations starting at the end of July 2022.

This is a great thing! There has long been a market in between the "luxury" of business class and the "second-class" nature of steerage, and given the usual price difference between the two, airlines have been experimenting with the details.

The biggest advantage airlines can offer in premium economy is getting away from the dreaded 3x3x3 seating in widebodies. Nothing to me says, "we're charging you more but you're not getting anything more than few inches" than United's premium economy seating on the 787. 2x3x2 on many other airlines makes you feel like you're actually getting something for your money, and I will go out of my way to book that whenever I can fly internationally.

I can't quite make out between the two threads, but is this basically the same product as AF?

As many "premium" carriers have found over the last few years, there is a clear market in medium-long haul for PE and the price premium tends to more than cover the cost of the extra floorspace needed.

Starting end of July 2022? Wonder what routes will get the PE equipped aircraft first. If KLM is starting with the 787-10s, then one of the LAX flights would probably be a good guess.

Are the seats the same ones that DL has on the A350s or had on the 777s? They look the same.

KL's Premium Comfort seats are going to be very similar to DL's Premium Select Seats indeed. KL is also planning to introduce the new seats on it's North American flights first, so stay tuned....

Nice, now I can avoid BA and their not so great product and the nightmare that is LHR when flying with family.

I've flown a couple of times with KLM over the last couple of days and am kicking myself for not picking them before.

You know, the seats they're using wouldn't be out of place if used as a Business class seat circa early 2000s.

Amazing how the progress has been in terms of cabin amenities.

The window seat passenger is going to have quite a squeeze getting out once those seats are reclined. Nice to see KLM upping their game.

Do we have any new information on when and where the first PE equipped aircraft will fly? It was mentioned it would be end of July and we are almost there.

If I recall correctly, KLM what is perhaps the very first airline to offer business class decades ago. At the time, business class was the first few rows of economy with a marginally better product.

As others have said, it's amazing how Premium Economy is what Business Class used to be a few years ago, and a lot of Business Class cabins are on the level of First (albeit less exclusive, unless you're in a mini-cabin). At least flying is getting better for some classes.

Although you could argue that long-haul Y seats have Also improved, albeit marginally (yes, they're smaller and less comfortable, but IFE has gotten better, and now many have Wi-Fi and power ports. And in a class where every small thing counts, the foldable-in-half tray tables are a nice touch, as are cupholders, seen on many a non-US airline). Pre-deregulation Y was probably much better though.

But I'm getting off track. It's nice to see KLM introducing a proper PE product with improved amenities, service, etc. I've heard complaints over the years about them only offering Y+, so it's good to see them finally jumping on the Premium Economy bandwagon, instead of just having regular Economy seats/service with more legroom.

There doesn't seem to be any info, but they did say that North American flights will be getting them.
I suppose a good option would be to find which aircraft have the product and track them. I know there's something similar for Qatar's QSuite: https://www.premium-flights.com/all-qat ... te-routes/
I didn't find anything similar for KLM though.

For some reason I remember reading that the first route to be guaranteed W was AMS-LAX, but I can't find anything saying that.
