That’s right! And they weren’t allowed to fill the plane because of weight restrictions.

I don't think any of the routes I've flown on were outright discontinued altogether, but as far as specific airlines discontinuing them, the longest would have to be JFK-NRT on Northwest and American, along with the reverser on American and United. The only other one on the list for me would be NRT to TPE and vice versa on Northwest and United.

Delta’s MUC-DTW flight on the Boeing 777-200LR, this was back when the new D1 cabin was introduced on the 777’s. I was 14 at the time. It honestly felt like flying emirates first but on an American carrier.

DTW-NGO-DTW on a 744 and later an a332, one of my most, if not the flight ive traveled on most frequently. Unfortunately it was permanently suspended earlier this year. I was actually able to take a few photos of the final flight passing over my house, which im really glad I got to do because I have so many memories from that flight.

SHA-LAX on MU MD-11.
This was before PVG was built and all long haul flights to/from Shanghai moved there, so I guess it's not coming back.

Good news, it seems to back in service, but operated by a 764

IAH-OGG on CO was great back in 2002. B764 less than two years old, great lie flat seats in row 1, outstanding service from the IAH based crew. Sure do miss that non-stop to avoid HNL on the old domestic dog UAL put on the IAH-HNL route these days. :sorry:

DXB-IAH on a UA B77E (N786UA) in 2014. They dropped the route in January 2016.

Nearly missed the flight. Was "connecting" in DXB. After landing in DXB, I got told I needed a visa to transit landside (work booked the flights - FZ to UA in a self connection that I didn't know or bothered checking). After 3 hours stranded at immigration without any way of communicating back home and my credit card not working, a flight from India arrived, managed to get hold of my bank via WhatsApp and explained what happened, and they magically made my card work. I ended up paying $300+ for a visa, run to the other terminal just to be told I was (very) late.

After a long explanation of what happened, the manager going off to speak to someone. He comes back and said the flight was delayed because of a US bombing somewhere in the Middle East so I was ok to check in and fly.

Work apologised and paid me back the visa cost. Partly their fault, partly my fault. Oh well!

I flew on that plane back in 2006, although it was operating UA885 from SFO to KIX. Today, the route still runs as UA35, and UA885 runs FCO to IAD.

Just the 231 NM ORD-IMT on a UA/Great Lakes (ZK) B1900 back in 2003. My, then very very young self supposedly was talking all the time about how he "wanted more bumps"

The IMT EAS contract went from ZK / ORD to Midwest Connect / MKE around 2004/05 to DL/OO with a mix of DTW/MSP and various tags by 2009 (?). Given DL's faster reduction of 50 seaters than UA, IMT might end up going back to UA / ORD in the future

MEL-SFO, though I assume that'll come back in the next couple years.

My favourite discontinued route, though, was TUS-MCI on ExpressJet. That fast little jet went out full and that route will probably never be flown again

DUB - HGK with Cathay on their A350 @ 11hrs and 13 mins. Was also the longest route out of Dublin I believe at the time. Was quite a nice flight tbh and was also full from what I could tell.

CAN-HEL on AY, no chance to come back until the Finns will fly through Russia again
CTU-TNA-LAX on 3U, dependent on how much TNA is able to subsidize the flight and also China-US relations
PEK-YVR on CA might be back soon if the China-Canada relation is improving in the slightest.

Ryan Air international L1011. DFW-HNL with a tech stop in ONT. Shut down a month later for shoddy maintence. Might not count charter alrline.

America West B742 " Bird of Paradise" PHX -HNL. Only ride on a 747, remember a 8 he delay.

Forgot to mention that this route was operated by an A330-300 when I flew on it back in 2017. Post-covid this is (was) a 788 route.
