Nothing beats the A340-500

On that list only the lockheed, the 777x and the 350-800 i haven't flown on, and guess the 350-800 will never happen

The A380 has to be the "most impressive", just for its sheer size. I've frequently overheard people in airports saying things like "Wow, look how huge that plane is!" whenever there's one on the ramp, even if they don't seem to know what it is.

The 747 is the most beautiful, but the A380 is impressive for sheer size. The An-225 is the best of both worlds: it's good-looking and very imposing.
The MD-11, Il-96, and 777 also look quite menacing.

A380 most impressive. Just an incredible machine.

Watch them land or takeoff or just flying around on approach - extremely impressive.

The A380 is big but I find it extremely ungainly and unattractive, I could never understand an aircraft so aesthetically challenged being developed and built in France, a country with a long history of producing beautiful civilian and military types

It didn’t have to look that bad !

747-400 fully fueled with the wings drooping waiting in line to takeoff from DTW-NRT.

I think an A380-900 would've had the correct proportions for that aircraft.

IMO Airbus probably should've only built the 900, especially since the 800 uses the wingbox designed for said 900. But that's for another thread.

Why specifically DTW-NRT.

I saw many a 747-400 at DTW waiting to takeoff, usually for NRT. Always an impressive looking bird.

Interesting. I've flown JFK to NRT on a Boeing 747-400 once in 2002.

Agree, a longer airframe would have looked a lot better

A330 on approach is stunning. Big wings, gear looks like a bird of prey coming in. Looks best with the T700s.
Always been partial to the 767-400 as well. The higher main gear with the nose down stance and raked winglets makes it just look quick.

Agree on both, I think the 764 is the best looking of all 767 variants

A350-1000
787-9
767-400
787-8
767-300ER
380
330-300

The 747, the L1011, the a340-500/600.

The latter looks either really long and really bulky with 4 of those huge engines hanging down.

A 3 5 0 - 1 0 0 0

It looks especially beautiful in Virgin Atlantic and BA liveries. Hope to see the Qantas version soon.

At SAA, we would regularly depart ATL for JNB with 176 000kg of gas and at MTOW. She would eat up that runway before getting airborne with that true 747 grace. ATL Tower would often give us a “good job Springbok” before handing us over. Nice memories.

How many times did the 744 actually make ATL-JNB nonstop? I thought that it stopped in Cape Verde or someplace, but I thought I heard somewhere that it could barely make it nonstop if winds are in favor and seats were blocked.

We could do nonstop ATL-JNB do to the wind. Had to tech stop on the JNB-ATL sector.

JNB is also 5500’ AMSL and this could have performance implications on warm days.

Yes and the tech stop was in SAL, Cape Verde until this was changed to Dakar, Senegal.

All the big 3 holers. DC-10, MD-11, L1011

Then all of the A340 variants.

Third I'd have to say the short fat twins 762 and A310.

There will never be a transport category plane better looking than the 747.
