Restaurant Recommendations in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Mon Mar 06, 2023 3:05 pm

Good day, folks.

In June, we'll be traveling to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico and staying at the Fairmont Mayakoba. We are very familiar with Cabo, a place we've visited at least annually for approximately 10 years, but for some goofy reason, decided to change it up this time and go to the 'Cancun' side.

So, looking for recommendation on the best restaurants within 30-45 minutes (no problem Ubering) of the Fairmont Mayakoba.
We aren't concerned about the price and yes, we know there are some eateries at the hotel, but we don't like eating supper at the hotel. Half the fun/enjoyment for us on vacation is going out to eat every night.

*We'll be there 4 nights, so looking for multiple options.

Thanks!

This may not be your thing, but I’d challenge you to visit some local taco stands in the actual town of Playa del Carmen.

They’re usually delicious and quick. You can Uber around to hit up a few, make it like a taco crawl of sorts. Google maps and the subsequent ratings are good to find local tacos.

If a DIY taco crawl is a bit much, book a local food tour where you can have a guide accompany you to a few establishments and show you the best of the best. Research and book on your own, if it’s arranged by your hotel it won’t be very authentic. It seems you have the money to afford something like this so definitely take at least one of your nights and have some non-gringo food.

Thank you for that. A walking food tour for tacos would definitely be nice for one night. It isn't something I had thought about, but we've done such things elsewhere and enjoyed it. I'll definitely look at something like that and book it on our own.

Gracias!

Also, if you have any specific recommendations on a walking, guided taco tour, I'd be happy to hear about it (company name, etc).

Thanks
