United 787-9 perferred seat with extra legroom?

Mon May 08, 2023 4:05 pm

Question for people in the know about UA. I have a trip coming up on a 787-9 and the section with economy plus on the outside rows had the seats between the aisles listed at perferred seating but when you hover it says extra legroom. But the price is 20% the cost of the economy plus seats next to the (rows between aisle and window). Do these actually have extra legroom and are selling for less because they are in the center 3 of the row? Just seems weird to look at

Was curious if anyone knew.

Diagram: talking about rows 31-34. Center row white lines up with the outside blue rows. So in theory it makes sense, but I don't want to buy up to them if they really don't have extra leg room.

Honestly, no clue - sorry. And I really don't care, as row 30 is the preferred row for families travelling with infants - in worst case up to 3... I would never pay extra for these seats. But that just my opinion. :twocents:

I just want to squeeze any legroom I can on a 13 hour flight. If I can gain a couple inches for a fraction of the Economy+ price ($40 instead of $300). I would gladly buy up if it will help me be a little more comfortable.

The preferred seats (white/black triangle, at least on the app) are not extra legroom. Per this page on united.com, they are preferred regular economy seats because they are closer to the front of the aircraft boarding door but not extra legroom:

The had said extra leg room under the description. But after it got within 72 hours it now says standard legroom. Odd.

I found this Reddit thread that shows what I mean. No answers on it either though.

I've found the website below to be pretty accurate. It seems the center rows are offset a little, so I don't think the center rows you're talking about are extra legroom seats.

Thanks. They ended up having a decent deal to upgrade to premium plus so I ended up doing that.
