Sometimes you can tell an airline, but they still won't comprehend or act.
Just before Covid, I was flying LHR-DEN-SFO-MEL with UA. The 753 operating DEN-SFO was running heavily behind schedule (late leaving the East Coast IIRC), meaning our connection in SFO would be missed. We approached UA at DEN and explained the situation, but they insisted the flight was on time because the system said so, and wouldn't change us to an earlier flight into SFO. We begged to differ but left it at that, and stuck out the long connection in DEN.
Needless to say, we missed the connection to MEL, so it cost UA an overnight for us in San Fran and a couple of thousand dollars in compensation. Not like we didn't try to help them...
