First flight was in may02, when I was carrying a consignment of spare parts for a vessel from Frankfurt to Muscat, Oman as an onboard courier.
I was booked on
BA and flew via
LHR.
As I was carrying the box with spare parts heavier than 10kg, I had to open it at least 9 times when going through securities checks and xrays, so at the end the box looked like sh*t, but I led each security officer seal & sign the box after screening, which not only cost my nerves but theirs too.
First thing I noticed when entering the A319 were the new stainless steel cockpit doors
BA had put on their planes.
Other than that, queueing seemd to be what flying was about now.
Pax was about 50-50 christian and muslim, which didn't bother me at all.
We flew along the iraqi-jordanian border, which, as I looked down on to the iraqi terrain, made me think about where we are today.
Yeah, it was kind of odd, that my first flight after 9-11, went to arabian country . When I was there, albeit the warmness of all omani people I met there, I didn't feel safe and stayed mostly at the beach and the hotel resort, rather than exploring the cultural goods and treasures of Salalah. I don't know why, and I could kick my ass today for not doing so, but I think that it was alsio after the attacks on german tourists in Tunesia. Well, that is still a pretty bad excuse, but somehow the little 'propaganda-man' was constantly banging with his little hammer against my head from the inside. Oman is No.1 on my list of countries I want to re-visit.
