The first aircraft I ever got to fly in was a KLM DC-8, reg PH-DCC on April 22nd 1967. I got off the aircraft two days later after six stops in a new country which I still call home.

Dan Air in 1984, was a B727-200. I was eleven and remember it as it were yesterday.

For me it was a BEA Viscount from Heathrow to Gibraltar in the early 1960s! I cannot remember much about the flight as I slept for most of the journey, but I remember Gibraltar Airport very well. At the time it was nothing more than a hanger with a few chairs and counters and many RAF personnel!

Although I cannot remember anything about the trip I am sure that around the same time my father's firm chartered a DanAir Ambassadors for a trip from Gatwick to Palma and I was a passenger on this aircraft. I have searched records and cannot find out if DanAir (or DanDare as we often called it) ever had an Ambassador fleet.

In about 1963 I flew on a BEA Comet 4B to Rome - Fiumicino (Leonardo was then being constructed!) (Sorry if the spelling is incorrect).

Eastern Airlines Super "C" Constellation in March 1956 from MIA - PHL - JFK (Idewild back then) and return from BOS - MIA. Flight from JFK to BOS going north was cancelled due to a blizzard!

Brittania Airways B737 London Gatwick - Palma Majorca 1973. I was that excited about it the first thing I done on takeoff was throw up. Thankfully I do not get that excited anymore and hence never thrown up in a plane again

Summer 1992 - Aged 4/5.

Balkan Tu-154 from Teesside to ??? in Bulgaria. I remember vivid things like covering me ears from the noise when boarding, the jam and cold rice meal, not seeing much of any FA's, looking into the red lit cockpit (night flight) and the carpet coming up on the floor.

Quite an unusual first flight for someone from the west!

Ansett or TAA, Maitland to Brisbane Australia, Fokker F27 when I was about 5 years old. To this day I still wonder why they called it a "Friendship" cause at the time I didn't find it very friendly.

Not sure if this counts, but my first "commercial" flight was a public relations tour of SW Florida on a Martin 404 flown by PBA. They were introducing service to Charlotte County Airport (PGD) in 1975 and were offering free sight-seeing flights. Mine was the first of the day, and we had to sit at the end of the runway while the engines "warmed-up"!!

Mine was a brand spanking new B742 of BA in 1975. SYD-SIN-BOM-LHR. I remember the aircraft was certified to carry out autoland and the crew decided to check it out at LHR. We went around at the minima on the first 2 approaches and then the Captain decided that he would be best off hand flying the approach. It was a perfect landing.

I was only 7 at the time and didn't know any better, but in hindsight I tend to think that maybe the aircraft didn't have autoland installed at all.

My first flight (that I can remember) was sometime in the late '70s, United 737 (I'm pretty sure it was a 737, definitely a narrowbody but with 3+3 seating, so not a DC9)

Cal Air DC-10 1989 MAN-IBZ-MAN sat in the flight deck for about 15 minutes during flight, I worked at ringway and knew the Cal Air crews..Hence the flight deck experience.. Smile

My first commercial flight was on a Monarch Airlines 737-200, G-BMON. The route was EMA - AGP - LTN. The outbound leg was from East Midlands as the aircraft was unable to land at Luton due to fog. We arrived in Spain about 12 hours later than scheduled.

Mine was with Orion Airways (now taken over by Britannia) in February 1983 on the 737th 737 from LGW to TFS. I remember the extremely loud noise of reverse thrust on the 732 on landing and thought how fantastic it was that although the weather on the ground was foggy and wet above the clouds it was a beautiful sunny day!
