Have You Ever Flown Over Your Home?

I always try and look for my house when I am flying on a commercial airline and I have been fortunate enough to have flown over my home several times.

Anyone else?

P.S. I searched for a post like this and nothing came up, so if its been posted before I apologize.

Hi everyone
This is my first post into A.net

I haven't flown over my house, but I do come within a hundred feet or so to flying over my dorm at Arizona State University coming in on 25/26 at PHX. I guess that's pretty close.

I flew over my house in Holland with a Cessna 172 and took pictures.
And here in Spain I overflew my house lots of times on departures from runway 30 from Valencia Manises (LEVC/VLC), flying to Bilbao or Barcelona. I live 25km northwest from the airport.

I live on the flight path to Manc ringway...So everytime I fly I fly over my house,last time I flew saw my wife hanging the wash.. Smile

...Flight's go about 500 feet over my roof..Those of you guys who know Manchester airport will probably know which road I live on.......

I live on the outskirts of Plymouth by the airport, so I have flown over my house several times in DHC8's, I quite often see members of my family driving back down my road having dropped me off at the terminal. Few weeks ago I flew over again, this time in a Cessna 152 and circled to take photos, they didn't come out to well as it was my old camera, but it was fun al the same Big thumbs up

loads of times.... my parents in live in Richmond, right under the LHR flightpath when coming in to land. So when I lived there, I must have flown over it loads!

The area I live in is so heavily wooded that I doubt I'd be able to see anything except for the tops of trees. I do see planes headed to EWR pass over my house once in a while, but I don't think I could recognize my own while in the air.

I live on the traffic pattern for 8R and 8L f and 26L and 26R in MIA. I fly over my house all the time. I think it is 8L and 8R they did change it right?

I used to live right under the final approach to 21L at JNB, in fact the runway lights were installed in open ground right next to my house. Had landing lights shining in the windows many nights, and yes I flew over it many times too.

I live under the flightpath to NCL, so I usually fly over it. We get to see loads of flight on a Saturday night and Sunday, especially EZY, lighting up the sky with the orange glow.

Yes, when I flew from DTW to PIT, I flew right over my house. (I could tell because I live across the street from a golf course and right by a large interstate highway)

I've probably flown over my house many of times, I just didn't know which one it was. I live in Thomasville, GA, about 40 miles south of Albany, so when we begin app. into TLH, we probably pass over it. I also hear CRJ's and 738's flying over. The one definite time I flew over it is when my friend's dad took me up in the rented 172 and let me fly for most of an hour. I flew over it so that if you looked through the belly you could see my house. It was great!(Also, on that flight I entered the left traffic pattern at TVI and brought it down to within 50 Ft. of the runway.)

Lots of times. In fact, a lot of people on here have. Take a flight from LHR, depart on a westerly runway and keep going pretty straight. Give it about 10 mins.... Many of the US flights go right over.

Mine is the house on the end with the blue car on the drive and the funny-shaped garden. Look out for the old farm house with the pool and we are just by that. Wink/being sarcastic

When I used to live in Paris I once flew into CDG after making a turn over the north of the city. I was coming from STR on an LH flight in a Fokker 50 and it was such a beautiful day you could make out every detail of Paris. I actually saw my balcony, as I live right north and on the last floor of an old building.

It felt sort of exciting that day...

I havent flown DIRECTLY over my house, but in 1998 i was onboard SQ328 (?)Manchester - Singapore. We took off from runway 24 and although i didnt actually see my house i saw the roads surrounding it and i must say, i wasn't unhappy about leaving it behind!!!

Only time I have flowen over my house was on 2000 while I was flying from HLZ-WLG. Other times I have flowen north or flowen back from the north to/from WLG I can see my house, but only if I'm sitting on the correct and only if there is a southerly

Last October, when I was on FL Flight 510 (PHL-BOS), I was able to get a good view of my mother's house in Marblehead (which is about 18 miles northeast of Boston) as we approached R/W 22L from the north. 4 out of the 6 or 7 pictures I took of my former-hometown show my mother's house.

Where I currently live (in Secane, PA; not too far from PHL) one can only see the apartment complex that I reside at if their flight is either taking off from R/W 35 or approaching R/W 17 for a landing. At present, all the flights I've taken to/from PHL have been on 9L-27R or 9R-27L.

Every single time I fly from BOM! I live almost directly under the take-off flight path. All I have to do is wait until the beach comes into view, look for a big hotel with a big pool and I'm quickly able to locate my building!

The great approach (and take-off) at NCE airport let us see a good part of the city. When departing to the east, you can get easily determine your home !

When runways 06L and 06R are in use at MAN airport, the flight path is over my house is Cheshire, so I have flown over my house a fair few times I can say.

I'm not really sure about my house, but as for my town, several times. I've seen my old Middle School from 3,000 & 30,000 ft in fact. I was in a Fokker 100 the latter of the times & got a great view of my town- it was really cool.

I've never flown directly over my home but have seen it many times while looking out the window on final approach to either of the 27's at ORD.

When we fly eastbound towards Lake Michigan and make a 180 to fly Westbound on finals, my tiny apartment (from the air and well lets face, it's pretty tiny inside as well) is usually directly to the right of us and about 3 miles away from our path when measured from sea level. But unfortunately the more we descend, the further my place drifts aways from sight.

Anytime Rwy 35R is in use at MXP, airplanes flies over my house and I'm almost always able to recognize which type and which airlines! Big grin

Unfortunately any time I took off from MXP Rwy in use was 35L so I actually never flew over my house.

nope i havent but i live near the 22L/22R approach/ 4L/4R departure at ORD. fly over a highschool w/ a plant of somesort w/ blue tubes, cross a highway and turn right if departing from 4L/R about a few degrees and you'll fly over my house. I see many planes fly over the house and for a rare but not uncommon treat, i'll get a 777 fly over my neighbourhood on approach Smile

Many times! As foolish as it sounds, I always get a tiny thrill of seeing my home from the air after returning from a trip. It's as though I get to see home before actually arriving home.

I'll go make an appointment with my psychiatrist now. Big grin

Several times,

I don't live in Thames Ditton, Surrey anymore but my mother still lives there. I often see the planes departing LHR and have spotted the house on three occasions.

LGW > YVR
LHR > PRG after leaving 27R heading west and turning 180 to port (giving a spectacular view of LHR itself)
LHR > LAX after leaving 09R heading east and turning 270 to starboard.

My mother thought I was a complete nut when told her I had considered calling her from my mobile from the plane to PRG and getting her to come out and look for my CSA B734 passing by.

LHR > LGW positioning flights, only reach FL60, easy to find Thames Ditton, just look for the big reservoirs.

LHR > JFK, I lived in Swindon and on a clear day I can locate the house by following the M4 to J16.

yeah a friend of mine use to fly a cessna and i was with him in the plane we passed over my house in ACcra i had a video camera and video taped everyone at home waving to me

Growing up in a Gwinnett County suburb northeast of ATL, many of my inbound ATL flights would fly over my house on the Macey Approach pattern, tracking parallel to I-85.

Here in CMH, I was on a UA CMH-ORD flight back in July that turned to the northwest after takeoff from 28R and flew right over my house in northwest Columbus.

You grew in Gwinnett County? Whereat? I grew up in Clayton, but now live just east of Lawrenceville.

Flying in and out of ATL all my life, i've flown over my house, relatives houses, and friends houses a bunch. Although I never did have a camera with me.

Also, when I lived in ROA, I flew over my house a bunch (I could even see my dogs in the backyard). The city is so small, you can't help but fly over the entire city on approach.

I am living East of CDG, at the end of the runways So, any landing facing west or any take off facing east, I fly over my village and I can see my house. (For landings, however, it is more difficult, because that means clouds and rain.)

Commercially, never.

On private flights, often, yes. My current home is located right on an entry point for CMF, so I often fly over it.

My present house is under a standard arrival route to PHL, and although I have been able to catch a couple of nearby large landmarks I've never quite been quick enough to actually spot my house from a commercial flight. I am also located pretty much underneath the downwind to base turn for 6 at PNE, so I have of course spotted it many times during my lessons and flights there. One of these days I'm going to ask tower if I can make a right 270 instead of a left turn to base so I can get a good picture - I just need to get up there on a quiet day when 6 is in use

I used to live on the South Coast of England near Shoreham Airport (EGKB)and on my last trip from PHL-LGW we flew right along the South Coast - I picked up exactly where I was over Plymouth and followed the coast all the way up to Newhaven where we were put in a hold pattern that we flew 3 "laps' at about FL200... first pass I spotted the "new" hard runway at Shoreham (it was an all grass field when I flew from there), second time around I was able to trace streets to my mother's road, third pass I actually spotted her car in the driveway - I was tempted to use the seat-back phone to call her and say "look up there - that's me!!", but resisted.

I've flown over it plenty of times in a medical helicopter service I work for, But not commerically that I know of. I remember flying CLT to PIT at night and seeing a large shopping area about a 1/2 mile from my house, so kinda. I did pass over Daytona International Speedway after I attended a race there, flying from MCO to PIT. It wa pretty cool. I have a picture, but not a.net worthy, lol Smile

All the time - my flat is right under the northerly approach to RWY 04L at Nice, if I sit on the right hand side of the aircraft, I usually see it.

Once, returning from Boston with Virgin we couldn't land at Heathrow due to fog so the captain informed us we would be touching down in Cardiff, Wales. (about 5 miles from my home). We flew over the house on the approach and landed. We had to stay on the plane for 2 hours then take off - fly 20 mins to Heathrow and then drive 3 hours back home again!

I pick out my work in Fort Lauderdale when taking off from FLL and I used to be able to pick out my parent's home in Boca Raton. My grandparents also lived in the flight path for CLE, so their place was easy to spot.

Some of my best memories were sitting outside, staring up at planes like NW and UA DC-10 and an occasional L-1011 or DC-8 flying into Hopkins before it became ERJ central.

I have flown TWA, AA, and WN many, many times out of STL, and both of the houses I've lived in (not even a quarter of a mile apart from each other), are about 2 miles west/southeast of Washington University, which is right in the landing/takeoff circle, depending on the wind's direction. Though I have never been able to really tell what part of STL I am flying over unless its downtown, I'm sure I've flown over my house many times. SO many planes landing and taking off over my house...even though I wasn't close to the airport, TWA 747s and L-1011s used to fly low over my house when in the landing circle, and I'll never forget when a TWA 727 which was incredibly low flew over my street, you would've thought the airport was several blocks away. Low-flying aircraft are a common sight at my house...and the landing circle extends over both of the houses I've lived in...the point of this long description, I am almost certain I had to have flown over both houses many times.
