Ditto for Phoenix Sky Harbor!!

I was born and raised in PHX and I remember in the late 80's when some suggested the idea of renaming the airport after Barry Goldwater. Even in the Conservative/Republican state like AZ, there was such an outcry that the idea was dropped. Even Barry Goldwater came out and said that he was opposed to the idea and loved the name Sky Harbor.

Hey FedExA380, I too was there the day T4 was opened to public preview. I was like 13 at the time.

I agree with many others Phoenix Sky Harbour is great,it sounds like a desert oasis.....

I think Heathrow sounds mechanical, and Gatwick sounds made up.....

Tullamarine (MEL) is a good one sounds Australian....

CLK (HKG) is a fantastic airport, but the name does sound like a checklist of pre-flight instructions!!

Though I agree with you... JFK might beg to differ.

Chek Lap Kok has nothing to do with the official name of HKG

Favorites - Arlanda (ARN)/ Sciphol (AMS) ..

Least Favorite - SeaTac (SEA) , how unimaginative

...btw, L-A-X is known nationwide, ask someone where J-F-K airport is in the west, maybe 30% would know (although JFK would beg to differ, LAX is the most popular airport code ever)

I like the name Heathrow as it clearly identifiable and is a name that could only be found in England. It is a simple, clear name and was the name of a village that was on the site of that airport. Phoneix Sky Harbor is quite good too. Neither get into politics, or into questionable people whom names may be forgotten many years from now, easy to spell and distincitve. I would also note that the literal translation of the German word for airport, flugenhaven (sp?) is flight or aircraft harbor. Names of aviators, or those connected to aviators are good too. Houston/Bush Intercontential is a sutable name as President (#41) and he was a torpedo bomber pilot in WWII in the Pacific, he was shot down and somehow survived and was rescued in a very dangerous place. Chuck Yeger, the first man to survive the speed of sound and an excellent WWII fighter pilot in Europe has his name on an airport in his original home area of West Virginia, USA. Lindburgh Field in San Diego, CA is also a good name as his historic "Sprit of St. Louis" aircraft was made by Ryan Aircraft adjacent to the site of the Lindburg Field. The Ryan Aircraft Co. still exists and has facilities there (it is part of a larger USA based company for a number of years).

Fellow Sky Harbor fans:

Terminal 4's new south concourse opening 3/05 and will house SW with 8 gates. That makes 7 of the 8 concourses completed. Also, note the new 300 foot ATC going up next time you're flying through.

LAX is the most popular airport code ever
No doubt about that. JFK got it's recognition after being named "Kennedy International." "LAX" on the other hand has been so popular that a name is probably not necessary. Why else does the airport have gigantic L A X at the entrance (on the top right by the poles)
