So how was your year at Airliners.NET?

I managed to get over 200 photos in DB and am now at 249 with 137 added in 2004. Hope screeners will let 250th one in few next day.

In general, for me 2004 was very successful.

I got my first 3 images accepted on the site in February and currently have 139 photos in here.
My average views / image currently is at exactly 1400, which is very good in my opinion.

Note that this image was my first one I got accepted, it's still the most popular one I have so far!

As I bought my first prime lens a few days ago and will use it on aircraft photog. tomorrow for the first time I think 2005 will be even better.

I only started uploading in February, in 10 months and about 20 days i have had 203 pics accpted and i have accumulated 265000 hits with an average of 1290 per pic. I am happy with this and hope by 2006 i reach the 500 mark!

I started uploading here in March and have around 300 picture here now. I guess that's pretty good considering I live in the middle of no where (two hours from the nearest commercial airport) and only used a $180 camera up until Oct and still use a relatively cheap camera now.

I some how managed to get in the top four of the day three times (2nd every time), although I only feel one picture deserved to be there. Right now my average is 645 hits a photo.

I thought this picture was over rated, 16,000 hits! Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, but it's just some small airport that only a handfull of people used to know about, now a few thousand do.

2004 was a great year for me. I had 26 photos accepted, 14 of which with a 2 - and later 4 - megapixel point & shoot. I recently upgraded to a 300D, so I now have my sights set higher. I just need to get out spotting more if I want to get that acceptance number higher.

First attempt at uploading was over a year ago; Summer '03 with a simple point and shoot. Got my first 100 or so shots up with a trusty Olympus C-740...nothing I'm particularly proud of, but I learned the basics...which I'm still trying to apply to a nice new setup with mixed results...anyway...

As for me, 2004 was a pretty good year. I never flew as many times as I did this year (as a passenger of course) and it gave me many photography opportunities. As for photography itself, I got, as many of you here, my Canon DRebel and really started aviation photography at my local airport. I'm now proud to have 287 pictures in the database and I sure hope that this number will increase in 2005. But anyway, the most important thing is that I feel like I'm making progress.

Happy New Year to everyone and happy spotting.

Cool thread! 2004 was a big year for me, before this year I had 5 old film shots that are hideous, lol, and one digital from last year. I bought a 300D in January, a Sigma 70-300 APO in February, with which I have had the majority of shots accepted into the database, 255 and counting. In September I took my first spotting-specific trip to the Bay Area in California where I visited SFO and SJC with a good friend. A lot of my shots on the site are from that trip. In October I bought a 100-400L IS and have hammered the ever-exciting TUL with it, getting quite a few more shots in. I am planning another trip to California for next month to hit SFO, SJC again with my friend, we are planning on getting SMF and MRY this time as well. It's gonna be a great time either way! I am quite excited to be going with my 100-400 this time! Here are my 3 shots!

2004 has been the year for me photography-wise. I mean it. It's been the ONLY year!

I've only got 5 on the database but I'm happy. I've only uploaded a few since my St. Maarten days. It all started that April with a cheap little Sony Cybershot camera... and I managed to get three shots on the database with that.

The photography was there... but not the quality. Hence, I bought a Canon S1 IS in June of '04. I uploaded a couple of shots here over the months, and got two in. 

Now, I've upgraded a final time to a Digital Rebel. I'm happy as happy comes, and haven't been out to an airport yet with it but soon enough I'll start uploading again.

Beginners luck, yes! This was my debut and it skyrocketed. Here's my highest grosser:

2004 is the year I discovered aviation photography. Armed with a little pea-shooter Minolta Dimage Z1, I managed to get a few accepted here. Just a few minutes ago, I ordered a D70 to be picked-up in the morning! Here's to a successful 2005!

Sorry, I just called a "L" lens a "prime"   I am so impressed by the difference to my old Tamron 70-300 that I thought it can't get any better....

So a 100-400L is not a prime lens, but for me it works like one... heheh

2004 hasn't been an especially good year for me. I have to admit however that it did have some good things. This year I added a grand total of 49 photos   which isn't overly impressive at all. Between having trouble with airport cops at my hometown airport, and being away at school, there isn't a whole lot that I have to work with.

However, I did have a couple of successes in 2004. First, I was able to maintain an average views of over 1200 (not difficult when you only have 76 shots in the db), and I was able to get my first shots in with over 15,000 views. Well enough of my ranting and good luck to all in 2005!

Well, I was very lazy with post processing in 2004, although I wasn't with traveling 

I had shootings at the following locations this year:
HAM, XFW, JFK, EWR, DUS, FRA, NRN, HHN, TXL, SXF, HAJ, CGN, STR, MAN, LHR, CPH, PMI, GVA, ZRH and AMS... mmmh maybe that's the reason I have such a huge backlog

2004 was a great year for me. I discovered airliners.net! I've always taken photos of planes, but with no real 'motive'. They were not very good either. Finding this site has helped me develop my interest and I've learnt so much about shooting, subject matter and editing. I don't worry if the shots I upload get rejected, I love the hobby for itself and the best bit is being out in the field. These days I actually think about what I am doing rather than going 'There's a plane!' - SNAP! I've got airliners.net to thank for that. In 2005 I'm looking forward to taking better shots based on what I've learned here in 2004.

This was my first year on A.net as a photog (after 3 years as a member) and have been able to get 227 pictures in the DB since March with my trusty Fuji S7000. Yes i am happy with how its gone but im now starting to get quality issues with my limited equipment.

For 2005 its a major upgrade on all fronts with a 20D and L series lenses. Looking to get more into Ice Hockey photogrphy aswell as aviation. To be honest since i got the photo bug i have been taking photo's of family,trains,wildlife. I just cannot get enough   Goals for 2005 are to try and get less rejections on A.Net. Fingers crossed the upgrade to a DSLR+improved photoshop skills will help on that front no end !!! To try and clear up my backlog of photo processing that dates back to July !!!! And finally to learn more about photoshop aswell.... Im just starting to study my way through the tutorial books and boy there's just so much more to the programme than i thought !!!!!

Well I have failed miserably in my task. Throughout most of the good weather in 04 I had Fuji S3000, and as you can understand it isn't good.
I set out of the task to get Canon 300D, by the end of summer hols. I got a job down at a seafront cafe at buzzing Southend lol and with a little bit of help from my parents I achieved my target. Canon 300D 75-300 III. I thought this would easily get photos on A.net but I was wrong. I rarely had opps to shoot in good weather as LHR is some 90 miles away.
I have managed to get 80 shots on Jet Photos with good standard I feel, I had 2 in Screener Choice and I have more shots from TFS to upload when I get home.
I have only 4 on a.net and I am stuck in the middle of trying to get more on a.net or just get my semi high tally of 80 on jp.net even higher quite easily.
I would like it if you could view my photos on jp.net, so you could see if there is any potential in my not the camera lol. (Search for Dom Nortney and select the contains tab)

2004 was a good year for me, aviation wise. Firstly, the begining of the year allows for rwy 07 departures in Sydney to get angles as this:

I also flew with QF for the first time and my first 747 flight in May. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. A/c was VH-OJT from SYD to MEL.

The Air France 773/ER arrived in October which was tops!

We also had a few foggy mornings in April, allowing for some nice photos:

In July, UA840 made an emergency landing back into Sydney after a bomb scare. The photo became my most popular at 14,000 or so and I beat Sam's number of hits that night   

Virgin Atlantic started Sydney services and I am ecstatic about that. I think I shot the living daylights out of all the A346s VS has!

Few extra special arrivals such as ZK-SUJ (Air NZ "Lord of the Rings") and John Travolta's 707 were also a nice treat. A few TriStar's also came in along with a Saudi Arabian 747SP!!!

Another top treat for me was when a QF and SQ 744s used rwy 16R for departures (on separate days).

This is the third runway, shortest of them all and it is extremely rare to see 747s on it.

9V-SPP, SQ's 744 has been here lots, including the first flight, along with a lot of AN-124 Ruslan's too and LAN new colours.

I probably left a lot out, but what a way to finish the year, with N196UA United Airlines 744 in new colours coming in on Thursday, 30th December, 2004!

I hope 2005 will be just as exciting. Thanks A.net for providing a great site - I even made a good deal of $$ from this hobby so it's been a great aviation year.

Well, I started in march this year uploading to a.net. Have been photographing other stuff for a few years but I found out that airplanes are a great subject as well. Living close to AMS does help a bit.

Have been able to meet a lot of nice and interesting people the past year and visit some nice place I wouldn't normally go to. That's what counts in this "hobby" don't you think?

Hi guys

2004 wasn't a bad year. Had 174 photos added to the database which isn't all that bad. Still have a hugh amount of shoots to edit. The Euro 2004 provided the oportunity to photograph many new airliners in Portugal. Also a couple of ramp tours gave the chance to shoot some diferent angles.

Always tought that there was a standard uniform for airline crews. But SAS pilots seem to be allowed to use the shirt of their national football squad.

Regarding aviation photography I remember having fun doing the sunrise shots this summer (after Miguel started doing that and we followed) and trying out some new stuff with "the AMS posse". And I had another great day with Craig in Sydney.

This thread seems to have become a self-plug.. I will NOT follow suit!
2004 is the year I found airliners.net. I have been ill since February and having found this wonderful site, I dug out my slides and negatives taken over the past 30 or so years. That in turn got me to get out my camera and I have now gone over to digital. I have learned slowly but am, I think, regaining my touch with the camera. I am very proud of some of my recent images, particularly at Waddington. I would have killed for todays equipment in the early 1970s. Until this year I had not really photographed aircraft for over 15 years.
Since mid March when I got my first acceptance, I now have 1500+ on the database. One picture only took a week for the viewings to rocket to 8 - no, there are no zeros missing.
One of the nice things about this site is that you can skim through and not look at the stuff of no interest to you. If only 1 person has viewed a picture but enjoyed it (aircraft or photo) then the exercise is worthwhile.
I have however been reminded of some amazing aircraft I have seen over the years and am constantly wishing that I took more colour. I am still getting complaints about my black and white photos !
I have 'met' some great people through this medium and have found the screeners to be a helpful bunch. I must have driven them crazy with some of my early attempts.
Airliners net can sometimes be perverse and my most popular picture (5000+) is, in my mind, an also ran shot though all of my Prinair photos do well - it must have been a loved airline. I bet someoone will look for it now too. My least popular, almost anything old in black and white. Most of these had never been printed but now, at least, they are preserved for posterity.
There is a down side........
My wife wishes I'd never found the site as the slide boxes and negative files are everywhere !
