The Coolest Call Sign Around!

Sun Jan 02, 2005 6:11 am

What do you think the coolest call sign around especially those that got no relation to the airline's name, my preferred one is Dynasty (China airlines), a call sign when you hear it, it states its presence.

Military ones seem to be pretty cool----

Gunstar
War Party
Roman
Ghostrider
Zapper
Gunslinger
Bull
Vallion
Warhawk
Decoy
etc etc...lotsa neat ones especially in the Navy.

Most airline callsigns are kinda bland (Delta, American, etc etc), but I do think Pinnacles callsign, Flagship, is pretty neat...not what you'd guess it'd be, looking at the airline name!

Nothing can ever beat hearing "Speedbird Concorde One cleared takeoff runway 27R" over a scanner then getting your ears blasted by four RR Olympus 593s at full thrust with reheat.  Smile

I really liked the callsign "Shark" which was used for Eurowings charter flights and for a short time also for Germanwings flights after the Eurowings A 319's went to Germanwings, after a few weeks they changed it unfortunately into the boring "Germanwings" callsign.

I don't know for sure but isn't TNT using a callsign like "Dynamite" or "Explosive"? Sounds also pretty cool.

"Speedbird" is pretty cool, but having lived in Florida and being one to feel sorry for slow and clumsy creatures, my all-time favourite is "Manatee" for the pre-merger AirTran.

"Sinner"? Like it!

Before Allegiant moved the Ops HQ from Fresno to LV, I'd have suggested "Raisin."

(BTW,anyone know what Air 21's callsign was?)

(as for AF...oh, that's tempting, but I can't violate my resolution for 2005 about not picking on the French on the first day, can I?)

Cactus, Speedbird, and Clipper (although I am too young to have actually hear it in real life, I still like it).

I also like to hear Citrus and Waterski, and any military callsign.  Big thumbs up

It's ok...your going to break it anyway! I mean, they're French!  Big grin  Laugh out loud

Even though I am only 17, I have heard the "Clipper" callsign! It wsas Pan Am 3, of course, but the pilots still had the pride of flying for Pan Am!

I'd like to change royal air maroc to maybe Green Star, as that "royal" very annoying to me and the whole call is long, and green star is suitable as there is one in the flag and one painted on the vertical stabilizer.

I think that Shamrock for Aer Lingus also has to be one of the more original callsigns out there. It also leaves little question about the origin of the aircraft, or where its headed/comming from!!!

I've heard TNT using callsigns "Nitro" and "Quality", where Nitro sounds pretty cool to me  Smokin cool

Also some other nice callsigns which came into my mind:
"Navigator" = Novair
"Shamrock" = Aer Lingus
"Finnpower" = Lillbacka Jetair
and so on...

Always liked CP Air's "Empress" callsign.

Some of the bizjet companies are pretty good too. Recently have heard a learjet using the callsign "Windrider" on the US freqs. Not sure who they are as they're not listed in the database yet ?

One particular callsign coming out of JFK regularly leaves absolutely no question about what type of a/c it is:

"Departure, GIANT 200 HEAVY out of 1500...."

Lind of liked "Stingerbee" when Eastwind was still around.

Also around Andrews AFB in DC the callsign "Venus"....which I believe is the Presidential fleet when he's not on board? Sometimes it sounds like something else if the transmission is garbled!  Big grin

Nothing beats good old Speedbird, especially when #1 then blasted overhead and sets off all the car alarms.  Big thumbs up

Aces, Baby, Beauty, Bee Med, Big Apple, Brandy, Cactus, Citrus, Copa, Cowboy, Dynasty (Die Nasty? WTF?!?), Eagle Flight, Easy, Edelweiss, Windy City and many many more are also quite nice, but see for yourself: http://www.airodyssey.net/reference/callsigns.html

Giant is Atlas, pretty cool eh.

Jetpixx, I was just talking to a few friends today about this. I beleive they went with Citrus, cause of it being a "Florida Market" airline and also Airtran is to close to Amtran(TZ) it would get to confusing on the comms.

I like: Shamrock, Cactus and Abex

Let's see if I can come up with a few offhand:

-Continental Express "Jetlink"
-Continental Micronesia "Air Mike"
-Deutsche BA "Speedway"
-Eastwind "Stinger"
-Icelandair "Ice Air"

And, I'd love to see us go to "Proud Bird" for our callsign. Now that would be classy!
