Airline W/most Flts To Diff. Cities In 1 Country

Tue Jan 18, 2005 8:28 am

I am looking at a map of British Airways routes to the U.S. and noticing how many different cities here they have (and are still) served by BA.

It brings to mind Continental's expansion to México - an absolutely astounding number of flights by an American airline to a foreign country, not to mention what they are doing with UK airports!!

Who holds the title for the most different locations served within one country by a foreign airline? Any ideas?

Thanks for you all your responses!!  Big thumbs up

I'd say these are the top contenders:

BA's ops in the US
LH's ops in the US
CO's ops in Mexico
JL's ops in China

I'd have to guess it's Air Canada's operations in the US...

Air Canada's 40+ destinations in the US definetly wins. I wonder if CO's 30 destinations in Mexico is second.

An interesting, slightly off topic point. For US->Canada flights by a US Airline, NW has the most destinations with 7 I believe.

Air Canada's US network is fifty strong:

Albany, Allentown, Anchorage, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Dayton, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Harrisburg, Hartford, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Manchester, Maui, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City/JFK, New York City/LGA, Newark, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Providence, Raleigh/Durham, St. Louis, San Francisco, San Juan, Seattle, Tampa, Washington, D.C./DCA, Washington, D.C./IAD, West Palm Beach, and White Plains.

However, it was not that long ago that AC was also flying to:

Akron, Austin, Daytona Beach, Charleston (SC), Cincinnati, Fort Wayne (Ind.), Grand Rapids, Greensboro, Greer, Louisville, Jacksonville, Kalamazoo, Norfolk, Ontario, Portland (ME), Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco, and Spokane.

In addition, they used to offer a more extensive network that wasn't hub-centric, like YUL-ATL, YOW-RDU, and YQB-FLL, and they have slowed down growth in the past few years. The only US destinations they have added in the past few years have been Daytona Beach (which was dropped before it started), Kona, and San Juan (which was a resumption of service operated in the 1990s).

Neat little tidbit. CO serves 7 destinations in Japan. More destinations than any other American Carrier.
Sopporo, Sendai, Niigata, Narita, Nagoya, Okayama and Fukuoka. NO KANSAI! Most flights are to Guam. NGO-HNL, NRT-HOU, NRT-EWR
My name is Centrair but HND is closer. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Where and What is Greer?

Northwestern corner of South Carolina. Big industrial town, home to BMW's North American manufacturing plant. However, the service never started. It was announced in spring 2001 for a July 2001 launch date, but was canceled a week before it was set to start.

RCS763av, you're right in all of those LAN flights except for Aeroparque. Although LAN flies seasonally during summer to Salta from SCL via IQQ.

Yeah, the BMW plant is in Spartanburg, right next to the GSP airport. I have been there on business many times. Love that airport- it has an outdoor terrace after secuirity? that allows you to see what is going on.

Where would AA fall in? Surely they'd have to be near the top of the list somewhere.

Speaking of Air Canada/Air Canada Jazz.. when are they bringing their E170/E190 online? Anyone have any inside info on top possibilities of routes? Are they supposed to be just out of Vancouver, or out of Toronoto and Montreal also?
