Right now I'm sitting in an office, overlooking one of the approaches for LIT. Of course, I'm mostly seeing CRJs and 737s, but it's a great way to slack off at work.
How many of you are able to see planes from your home or office (at FL 350 doesn't count)? What are you seeing? How often? From where?

I'm in Arlington, VA with a view of Washington Reagan National take-offs from my office window. Lots of USAirways A319s, AA M80s, DL 737/M88/757, various CRJ/ERJs, etc. If I look out west on a clear day, I can sometimes see the heavies landing/taking off from IAD. In 4 hours I'll be on one of those AA M80s to DFW connecting to TUS.

I see planes from my house all the time, its either usually HP and WN, but their are a lot of everything else. It is pretty visible from all areas of our metro area. often, we see VS sometimes, there beautiful planes!

I have a north facing, fifth floor office that sits 2 miles south-east of PHX. I get an unobstructed view of HP's flights all day. 
For you PHX folk I'm close to 52nd St and Broadway in Tempe.
I also get to watch HA's 767 takeoff everyday at 11am and BA's 744 land at around 4:30pm.
I have a telescope in my office so I can watch all the airport happenings.
People like to come to my office when Air Force One lands or takes off.

Right now, I'm sitting in an office right at the edge of the runway at Pearson Int'l. All sorts of interesting planes, although mostly AC A320's, and little jetsgo and westjets... later on in the afternoon, the big Europeans get here

In school I can see some planes in the air. Traffic from MIA going North and West. I can always tell when a MD-80 flys by witht the sound. Also get lots of traffic from Opa Lacka. Twin props that look like they are traning lots of helicopters too.
From my house I see tons of traffic coming and going to MIA 26R/8L 26L/8R. 747 to ERJ and biz jets.

At the moment I am sitting in my office beside the hangar at Ronaldsway IOM. Unfortunately I face the wrong way, but, if I go into the kitchen I have an excellent view of the runway.
Now, all I need is something to move.
If I go into the hangar I see an ERJ145 and an RJ100.
On the apron across the airport are a couple of 748's, an ATP, a Dash 8 and a 146.
It doesnt get much better - although the odd goody does drift in now and then.
But, the tax makes it all worth while

Well, Down on the south, here in Buenos Aires, I'm on a 9th floor, and can see AEP's rwy 31 approaching aircraft turning downwind to base and finals. Unfortunately I can't see them land. 
Mostly AR/AU 732's, Md's (83-88), Metros, some private jets, PU ATR and if we're extremely lucky, PU 757 (a long time since I don't see it) and Presidential 757 (now undergoing some checks in Israel I believe)
I also get to see lots of helicopters round here. Mostly the Presidential when Mr. K. gets to the Government house!

Right now , sitting at home as SA234 bound for London just flew over my house. I get all the European/African arrivals on downwind if they're landing on 03 and the European/African departures if they're using runway 21.

When I am at home, I see aircraft going into DTW on the Polar One and aircraft going into ORD on the Pullman Four all the time. There is also a very busy jet route, J36 I think, just south of my house. I'm also very close to the approach end of runway 6 at MKG.

From home and my office in Santa Monica, I see all arrivals to LAX from Asia and up the Pacific Coast of North America, as well as European arrivals on the northernmost polar routes, as they "leave SMO at or above 7000 feet heading 070" beginning their downwind segment of the arrival pattern. No matter how many 747s you've seen they're still an amazing sight! I've got my 18 month old son noticing them and saying "Airplane"!.

I'm curious as to whether those of you that live within the flight path chose your location in order to be close to the airliners? That's real dedication.

Occasionally, while we are not under a direct air route, I can see planes from the back or front yard of my house. Lately the traffic has increased, which I enjoy; others are complaining. 
Anyhow I see a lot of JAL 747's, UAL 747's, 777's, 767's (all mostly leaving to Europe) and many small regional jetliners, particularly the Embraer 170's. I also get a lot of other 777's belonging to other airlines, and of course tons of 737s. I have never been able to identify an Airbus, though I'm sure they are their.
I live about 15 miles from O'Hare in a suburb to Chicago.

I live to the side of BHX (Birmingham International Airport). From my bedroom window i can see the aircraft departing and landing, dependng on the wind direction. Right now I see a Boeing 767-200 in Britannia Colours taking off.
I frequently see 757's, 767's, 737's, A319's and A320's.
The best part of the day is when the twice daily EK 777 comes in

I teach ninth grade in the eastern part of National City, CA. This is a suburb just to the southeast of downtown San Diego, about ten minutes by car (when traffic isn't bad). From some points in the school, there are clear views to Tijuana, the Coronado islands, the Coronado bridge, as well as downtown San Diego.
We are also just to the south of the landing path, so all day long there is a constant stream of airplanes flying in. We see the left side of the planes on approach to runway 27 at a height of about 1000-2000 feet. They are about one to two minutes away from touchdown.
While most of the planes are Southwest 737's, occasionally something unique pops up, like World Airways MD-11's and the new UPS design 757 as well as older cargo 727's. I SO miss seeing British Airways flying 747's and 777's in here , but Hawaiian's 767's are a great site too! Thankfully, I cannot see any from my classroom window, or I'd lose track of what I was doing, but it's a nice treat to see when I'm outside.

Im right under the flightpath for LCY, aircraft that are on approach for runway 28 fly over.
Also, can see LHR arrivals that are about to enter the hold.
STN departures can be seen sometimes.
and last but not least - when SEN is on 06, I get aircraft on finals flying low over my house.

My school is about a mile away from a GA airport (French Valley, F70), which is mostly Cessnas and Beechs, but occasionally has a bizjet fly in. It's an untowered airport, and pilots announce their landing or takeoff intentions on the UNICOM frequency. It's interesting to fly out of the airport, because when you hold short at the end of the runway, you first check visually to see if a plane is approaching, and then announce that you're taking off over the UNICOM. It's kind of like stopping at an intersection and waiting to turn...

If I go outside my apartment, I often see biz and General a/c inbound to Teterboro airport and depending on the winds, arriving a/c for EWR. I live about 3 miles Southwest of Teterboro and about 15 miles north of EWR. I often see inbound EWR traffic from mostly the west, northwest and sometimes Europe, including CO, LH (around 3:30 pm), Fed Ex, and other airlines. If I am outside my parents' house about 20 miles away to the Northwest in northern NJ, I often see inbound traffic to EWR.

I'm on the european flight path from Bristol Lulsgate (EGGD/BRS) so i see Easyjet 737s and BA ERJs and ATRs going over on initial cliumb at around 3000 feet with reasonable regularity as I walk to and from town. We also get the occasional Thomas cook 757 and other smaller airlines and even KLM fokkers. These last two I have not seen here yet.
My parents' house is on the holding pattern for Heathrow 9L so occasionally we get a widebody going over at about 5000 feet or so although usually higher. Alos on the flight path from LHR to southern USA, but the aircraft are usually quite high (above 10,000) by the time they get here.

I have classes at the airport so I see a huge range of NZ Saab340s, Beech1900Ds, ATR72-500s and the odd 737-300. I also see many PA28s, Cessnas, Freedom air 737-300s, and Origin Pacific Metroliners.

I get to see quite a bit of planes that come into FRA from the northwest (mainly UK and US - at least those are the ones I recognize most frequently... it's not that easy knowing where one of the dozens of Lufthansa flights passing over my head comes from... ) or northeast - depending on the wind: basically, anything that flies past downtown just north of the city flies over my head.
Also, planes leaving towards northern Germany or Scandinavia pass above here quite often - again, obviously, wind-dependant.
And, Adoniscan, no, I didn't move here to be closer to airplanes - it's just really rather hard to live in Frankfurt and not have planes frequently flying close to your house... fortunately, I really don't mind - but the fact that they're usually around, I'd guess, 3000ft high when they pass above me probably helps quite a bit in that regard.
