What Puts You Off Flying?

Tue Mar 15, 2005 1:20 am

What puts you off flying?
For me it would have to be all the little things that add up and put me off flying e.g:
the missing call button,
the pa system that stops working,
the sound when the flaps move,
when the lights flicker when the engines start,
the t.v. that has to be pulled down manually,
and not to forget the dripping condensation after take off,
the non smoking light which isn't illuminated because the light bulb has gone

any thoughts on what put you off flying?
Thanks
Sam

:: blink ::

Do these small things put you off flying a particular carrier, or flying all together? None of the items you've listed would put me off flying at all, but a propensity of multiple maintenance items gone unrepaired might make me think about reconsidering flying a particular airline, if it was noted on aircraft after aircraft.

Perhaps I'm missing your point.

Hardly anything puts me off flying but if anything it would have to be long lines at the airport and traveling with and infant of my own. I don't care about other's infants 'cause I don't have to carry them  cool

When people come down the aisles with bags to big and hitting everyone sitting in the aisle, also when that one person is trying to jam their belongings into the overhead and moving evryone elses around, the person who uses the back of my seat as way to get out of theirs, kids kicking the back of the chair, the person who stinks up the bathroom then as they walk down the aisle the smell follows, the ONE person the passes gas on the plane, the person who decides to paint their nails on the flight, the kid with the LOUD video game, the barking dog, the crappy food, the uncomfortable seat pillows, the person who is snoring over the sound of the engines, the person who ALWAYS has to go the bathroom when other people are getting served and stands right behind the flight attendants, the person who HAS to get off the plane first, the people who sneeze and wipe their hands on the seats, and FINALLY not getting my one CAN of COKE!!! Come on can't y'all afford to give me the whole can??? Oh, other than that flying commercially is a blast Big grin!!

Disclaimer: I do enjoy flying and these are just a few things that have annoyed me over the years.

The off to the races attitude of the other passengers really puts me off:

Race to get on the plane (Zone boarding please)
Race to the overhead bins (Only one item)
Race to the lavatories once the F/A begin rolling the carts (Please sit while the F/A are serving)
Race to get the seat belts off (Didn't you just hear what the pilot said?)
Race to get off the plane (Where do you think you're going?)
Race to the airport toilets (At least wash your hands.)
Race to get the baggage (Carousel A not B.)

And considering all of this, flying is one of my favorite activities. I even like to watch A&E's Airline to see all of the flying idiots out there. It really makes me laugh.

The other passengers. It is unreal about 99 percent of the people I encounter on my flights act as if they have never been at an airport/on an airplane before based on how they act.

I actually love the flying part - it is all the hoopla around the flying experience that I detest. Stupid security people, stupid airline staff, stupid customs agents. Are they bred to be that stupid? Is it a requirement to be hired?

cheers

The only thing that would make me not fly is if my flight number was 191.

What puts me off Flying?.....

hmmm...

As a smoker, no smoking along with the No Smoking sign, reminding me that its illegal to satisfy my craving. I try to forget that I need to smoke, but every time I look up I'm reminded, we all know that we can't smoke; so turn it off.

Another thing that puts me off is knowing that if you fly economy, that wherever you sit, even given a free choice, either the person in front of you will want to go to sleep and recline their seat; just as you have put a drink/food on the backseat table, or, you will get somebody expert in Irish dancing sitting behind you, and they will practice their steps from takeoff to touchdown, or that's the way it feels. If your really unlucky you get both, as I have on a LGW -DTW flight on NW

Wish I could go Business/First whenever I wanted.

The hassel and inordinate overhead of city-airport commuting and airport time compared with the actual flying time on short haul routes. That's why everyone with any sense takes the TGV, EuroStar or local equivalent if its available. Paris-Brussels by TGV is 1:20 by train city centre - city centre and much more by air. Hence, AF don't fly there anymore, they just give you the train ticket as a connecting segment. There's a TGV station underneath CDG2.
Each time a new full speed TGV line opens, AF scales down or discontinues that route as they can't compete in time or comfort.

Now long haul air travel, that's quite a different matter.
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.
