What Name For The A 380

Sun Mar 20, 2005 2:27 am

The famous B 747 is called "Jumbo". How should we call the A 380? "Whale"?Any ideas, suggestions?

"The Whale" is already a popular nickname for the 747, but I like your idea. How you do say "the big cheese" in French?

Why big cheese? "Le fromage grand" or "gros" (fat).

you can't call it the queen of the skies, that is one of the nicknames for the 747 (or at least a self-appointed one by Boeing). Got to come up with something else.

BlueSky1976 knew that, he was just making a funny comment. At least I found it humorous.

See the thread If The 747 Is A Jumbo What Shall We Call The A380 (by BCAL Oct 20 2004 in Aviation Polls & Prefs)

Airbus has the Beluga already, so Whale would keep it in the family...

Gee, I just read the other thread (as suggested by BCAL), and I am always amazed about how many people (especially, but not exclusively Americans) are so anti-Airbus. When I was at PHX last time, NW apparently had an equipment change (not my flight), and I heard a guy swearing about a delay, and adding "and on top of that I have to fly on a f***ing European plane. How can an American airline buy a f***ing Airbus?...". Very funny indeed...

I personally think the 747 is and will always be the real "Queen of the Skies"

I think the 747 is the king of the skies and
the Concorde is The queen of the skies.
But I heard from another A.net member that the only title that
the A380 is worthy of is the "forehead of the skies."  laughing

I think that (except for the nose) the A380 is magnificent. But with the forehead and it's size, I have heard some pilot friends call it "the monster".
Keep in mind, this was not my nickname. I think it should be something like "the Big Baby" since it is so new, king of the skies would suffice if the A380 becomes as popular as the 747.

Hope I didn't offend,

Score, man! That's got my vote. Failing that, how about T-Rex? Orgazmo fans know what I'm talking about.
